I, on the other hand, would add to Good Vibrations the whole 'iconic' album Pet Sounds, which leaves me as cold as a wet Tuesday night in Stoke!

It will probably come as no surprise to you to learn that I'm very fond of Pet Sounds.

I just wasn't made for these times.

Delighted to see Imagine, Wonderwall, Hey Jude and Sweeeeeeet Caroline mentioned in this thread.

All absolute garbage. Proper fingernails on a blackboard tripe.

I'll add 'Every Breath You Take' to list.

Awful.

And any song that rhymes 'tonight' with 'alright' unless it's been done to take the piss out of songs that rhyme 'tonight's with 'alright'.

Worst ever rhyme in a song was where masses was rhymed with . . . . . masses!

"Generals gathered in their masses
Just like witches at black masses"

(Great recoding, though. I think Billy Bragg did a cover version)

Down there with the most laughable rhymes:

“Got to write a classic.
Gonna write it in an attic”.

And people bought that in droves.

I've see your 'War Pigs' and raise you a 'Never Let Me Down'

'Promises me I'm as safe as houses
As long as I remember who's wearing the trousers '

At least they are two different words!

My favourite 'spit your coffee' rhyming couplet, contrived, pretentious, hilarious and shit all at once, is this:

"The sun goes down on a neon eon
Though you'd have a job explaining it to Richard Coeur de Lion"

I offer a small prize to the first person to name that chune.

My ears bleed when I hear this:

Never understood the attraction.

So weird. I absolutely loved early Oasis. And yet . . . . I never bought any of their stuff, and I don't have anything of their stuff on my iPods. Thinking about it, their songs start brilliantly, but are let down with what I can only describe as 'pub rock' guitar solos.

They fall into a category of 'like it when they pop up on the radio, but I tend to change the channel before the end'. That said, I prefer them to the Beatles, another band whose songs I can't listen to all the way through. I liked them in the 60s (as most little kids did) but Hey Jude killed it for me. Ride a White Swan almost killed T Tex for me for the same reason. The repetition gets half hearted and pointless. If you want to get into a repetitive groove, you must make it intense and interesting and maybe insert some interesting distractions. I'm not going to start a new thread on it, and this thread is already rather diverse, so I will post two examples of tracks that settle into a good repetitive groove with added dynamic tinges. The first is a big favourite in the Tackle houshold:
