Now that's not very nice Mr Pavilionaire. Bit too close to a few home truths?

I'm not going to go there, suffice it to say Ron Atkinson can't be a very good racist because by having the balls to pick and then play Batson, Cunningham and Regis he single-handedly changed the face of British football for the better.

Were you born by 1978?

Let me get this right - the fact he picked black players means he's not racist? Like when Aragones picks Senna for Spain..??

Meopham, Kent.
Was the hooliganism of the 70s and 80s just good ol' fashion lovefests?

That's right, it was just a bunch of happy blokes all getting along great. In fact the Chelsea fans were famous for their smile! The Chelsea smile, what could that have to do with hatred and vitriol?

:dunce:

It's nothing like Aragones you idiot. Racism was rife in the UK when Atkinson did what he did, and there were plenty of people unhappy about it, therefore Atkinson was taking a big personal risk.

Carlton Palmer said: "I'm black and I'm sitting here and I'm gonna stand up for Big Ron not because he's a friend of mine, I'm standing up for him because I know what he's like as a bloke.

"If we're going to deal with racism then let's deal with the bigger picture of racism not about a throwaway comment that wasn't meant in that manner."

"If we're going to deal with racism then let's deal with the bigger picture of racism not about a throwaway comment that wasn't meant in that manner."

During the 1990 World Cup he made racist comments about a Cameroon player while covering the England/Cameroon match for ITV. Then, Atkinson said of the player that he "didn't have a brain". His co-commentator, Brian Moore, tried to correct him: "You mean a football brain, don't you, Ron?" Believing that his words would not be heard on air, Atkinson said, "I'll only get in trouble if his mother is watching the game sitting in a tree." ITV, who received an official complaint about this, did nothing and have since refused to comment on it.

As the former Arsenal striker Ian Wright said in the Daily Mirror: "Every time I see Ron Atkinson he is making the latest popular racist joke at me and I dont really want to hear that."

Who's the idiot?
