Thats how Andy Serkis portrayed him in the biopic. He was full of anger and bitterness which his experiences with polio partly contributed to.Saw him at the Top Rank and again at the Lyceum Drury Lane on the Stiff tour, and somewhere else around that time.
Apparently he could be quite abrasive off stage. Rude, even.
But a great entertainer.
