Judging by recent experience i can't recommend Vision Express, at least not the branch in Eastbourne. Just treated myself to a nice pair of Ted Baker specs that were not cheap and i have been back 3 times to get them to fit them properly. If its not the arms rubbing its now the nose pieces making me sore. The shop is full of young kids and i'm on the verge of asking for a refund.

I think your best solution is to stop beaing such abig girls blouse and get some daily disposable soft lens from Specsavers. I have them for socialising and sport and they don't insist you join a scheme. You just buy a box as and when you need them.

As for laser treatment the verdict on that is still out. A lot of people like Diggers have had a good result but the the medical profession is still undecided. The bottom line is that there is not enough valid statistical evidence to back up the claims made by the companies offering laser treatment. In fact Boots who used to offer it had their knuckles rapped for false claims. In addition the procedure has not been round long enough to assess the long term medical implications.

More importantly considering you are probably looking at at least a grand you are not guaranteed 20:20 vision and neither is this guaranteed for life. Worse case scenario is that you just get your glasses prescription reduced. Their are also known problems with a halo effect when looking at lights particularly when driving. Furthemore the companies flogging the procedure are reluctant to provide figures on patient who have to be retreated.

Want a new pair now, as my old ones have now got unpleasant green gungy bits behind the little things that sit either side of your nose. I assume this is probably dead skin mixed with stale sweat that has congealed and gone mouldy over time. The lenses are a bit scratched now as well, and their design is a little too "Danny Baker" for my liking. Plus I've got a screw loose.

Anyhoo, all this means is that I'm in the MARKET for a new pair of specs. But where to go ? Vision Express ? Specsavers ? Donald & Aitchenson ? Can anyone embellish me with their optical experiences ? I'm not all that fussed about getting a free pair of prescription sunglasses or anything, and they don't need to be Versace, but I don't want a pair of Jack Duckworths with a plaster in the corner either. Oh, and I'm NOT going to start wearing contacts either. Thats some gruesome shit holding your eye open and pushing a lens in, that'll only pop out anyway at the slightest smack in the face. I'm not having that.

Pardon.........come again!

So where should I go ?

Cheers for the advice MM.
I'm too much of a scardy-cat for laser treatment anyway, and would rather spend that kind of cash on a large HD LCD TV, so no danger there. As for VisionExpress - I've got an eye test in the Brighton branch on Saturday morning, so I'll see how the land lies. I only mainly wear glasses for TV / Cinema and Withers, so as long as they fit the bill for that, I'll be peachy.

I have read that people who have had laser treatment have problems driving at night due to 'starburts' from lights.

I had my eyes zapped about three years ago and had a little problem night driving only for a week after they were done.

I did have to ask myself on the morning on the op why am I f***ing about with my eyes when contacts and glasses will do but just did it anyway.

I'm sure you can get it done now for £1000 both eyes

Yuk, just the thought laser treatment scares the living bejiminy out of me.

I can see as well as anyone, I never get gunk in my eyes and all I have to do once a month is take my contacts out. Piece'o'piss.

It did me too, in fact it was whilst in the toilet on the morning of the op that I first wondered how blind people know when their bum is clean.

Apparently keep using paper until it no longer smells.

45 is the age when eyes start deteriorating.

That's cheered me up no end. I have perfect eyesight still, but am soon to become 44. I can hear the clock ticking from here.

On the plus side however, my dad didn't need reading specs until he was 65, so I'm hoping I got my eye genes off him...

(I never met our old milkman "Speccy", so I can't comment there.)
