I need GLASSES

Want a new pair now, as my old ones have now got unpleasant green gungy bits behind the little things that sit either side of your nose. I assume this is probably dead skin mixed with stale sweat that has congealed and gone mouldy over time. The lenses are a bit scratched now as well, and their design is a little too "Danny Baker" for my liking. Plus I've got a screw loose.

Anyhoo, all this means is that I'm in the MARKET for a new pair of specs. But where to go ? Vision Express ? Specsavers ? Donald & Aitchenson ? Can anyone embellish me with their optical experiences ? I'm not all that fussed about getting a free pair of prescription sunglasses or anything, and they don't need to be Versace, but I don't want a pair of Jack Duckworths with a plaster in the corner either. Oh, and I'm NOT going to start wearing contacts either. Thats some gruesome shit holding your eye open and pushing a lens in, that'll only pop out anyway at the slightest smack in the face. I'm not having that.

So where should I go ?

I went to Vision Express to get new lenses (all I needed, frames are very new and fine condition), but I wouldn't pay their prices for full frames

I used to work for Specsavers in Devon, as my friends Dad has three branches, as a holiday job. Good value in the glasses market, although the franchise makes about 300% profit on each pair of glasses.

If you are in the West Country then I could try and get you some cheap glasses if you pretend to be my friend ;)

Obviously don't live there now, but needs just an email.

Sadly I think my travel costs to and from the West Country from sunny Sussex would probably largely negate any discount you could offer on the glasses, but I will keep your kind offer in mind should I ever move to Honiton.

:)

Specsavers, monthly contact lenses. You leave them in your eyes for a month - including sleeping - and you don't even know they're there. And you see like this:

How much you looking to spend Easy? David Clulow are another franchise type opticians, but they are excellent in their service. Been going there for the past 3 years and the eye tests are comprehensive and the opticians really seem to know what they're talking about. Mine actually recommended against contacts because of the eye problems i have, whereas Vision Express just wanted me to sign up to a deal. No hard sell, they leave you on your own if you want to buy a new pair, or if you like someone will actually go around with you and help you choose.

The only problem is they are a little bit more expensive than most opticians, but i look at it that i need to keep my sight as good as possible so if it means spending a little extra then so be it. Anyway, worth checking them out.

Have an eye test, tell your optician you are in a hurry and will come back to choose a pair later, and send the prescription to these people and they will produce a pair of specs at a fraction of the high street price.

I think the gunk down the side of your glasses is probably dried SPOODGE though following that trick you attempted when dressed as the construction worker at the Pink Coconut though Easy

Cheers Grizz, shall bear that in mind. If I can get away with a hundred squid I'll be fairly happy. Dunno about these online ones though El P - I need to see the glasses on my FACE I think before I commit to ordering them.

Make cardboard copies of your favorites, then try each one on to see which ones suit best. If you need to wear glasses to do this simply stick your fake glasses to the frames of your old ones.
For a proper opinion bring them along to the next match you go to and we'll all help you decide.

PS Your screws been loose for as long as I've been posting on here. And probably longer.

So did I until I was 45.

I've used Specavers in Huddersfield, Brighton and Eastbourne. My records have been transferred by computer.
I've always had good service and they have loads of special offers. There are designer frames if you want to splash out.
The optician at Huddersfield referred me directly to the hospital after one examination about 6 years ago because he spotted a macular hole in my right retina. I now see a retinal specialist once a year or so to keep an eye on it (no pun intended)
I cannot speak more highly of them.
