Yeah, there is. There's two codes of Bowls: Crown Green & Flat Green. The basic difference is that in Crown Green there is a mound in the middle (the Crown) that players play over/around and in flat green the playing area is...well, flat. The clubs in places like Worthing, Eastbourne, Brighton, Chichester etc are all flat green.

Indeed.

And for those of us of a certain age, who can forget this compulsive viewing - right up there with Jack Hargreaves in Out of Town and also One Man & His Dog :)

My daughter plays there for Beacon School who have a team, one of only around a dozen English schools that do.

Thought you might like to know that the English schools championships were played today, my daughters side came runners-up in the main event( lost to a side who were all around 4 years older and contained international players) and won the national novice championship. OH and they are coached by an Albion STH.
