I hope Rotherham away is a free for all

Sonic just asked the question in Ask the Club and Insider replyed that nothing had be done between Rotherham & Brighton.....fair enough its ages away, anyway in the question Sonic posted this:

"...are there any plans in place whereby those fans who've travelled away regularly during the season will have any priority in getting tickets, or will it be a free for all again?..."

Raises a good point and no doubt one thats been done to the death on here, but since the SEARCH FACILITY does'nt work I'm gonna re-start it.

Personally I dont like people getting priority tickets just because they are rich enough to go to most/every away game all season long, but I can see where they are coming from, but just because they go to as many away games as possible 'should' they get priority?

What if there are 1000 regular away attenders and only 1000 seats at Rotherham, is it fair to ignore the rest of us?

What measures can the club introduce that would please both sides?

Would it be best to keep it in a ballot system?

At the end of the day most clubs in this division are able to give their small allocation at Withdean to the most loyal, so we should be able to do it for games such as Rotherham and Gillingham.

Those that go the most deserve the priority, maybe they should do something similar to Englandfans, where 70% of the tickets go to the most loyal and the other 30% are allocated to the rest via a ballot.

30% seems abit low though, you'd end up like Withdean home games where people dont bother thinking they hav'nt got a chance in hell of getting a ticket.
Its a hard one to call cos you cant do "first come first serve" as thats nto fair to people outside Brighton or without 'net access etc If you start up a special Ticket Club you could end up with 10,000 members trying to fill 3000 seats away so that in effect becomes a ballot again.

Certainly theres room for something to be seriously looked into and maybe the percentage thing is going down the right track. Still as with everything you can please everyone all the time, for that we'd need away ends that hold infinate amount of numbers :D

30% is probably about right, but at the end of the day you not going to please everyone and I suspect it will the usual scramble with people moaning one way or the other.

Leeds allocated the away end at withdean using a points system. Good idea really. Perhaps we should do something similar, doesn't bother me as I can't make it to Rotherham this season.

points system eh? we should try and look into this more and maybe raise it at the Fans Forum (not everything HAS to be about Falmer you know) or Ask The Club forum.

When the Away Members Scheme was first introduced, there was supposed to be a loyalty scheme built into it.

Trouble was that everyone complained it wasn't fair!

Unless ALL our away games are all ticket, it can't work, and it's not up to our club to decide if they are or not.

Some sort of loyalty scheme would be good, but you can't initiate it in the middle of the season. Personally, I've missed very few games so far this season (2), but that record won't continue as my lifestyle catches up with me. I'd therefore now be disadvantaged.

All the other clubs in this division seem to have something up and running. The only thing I'm sure about is that a Grimsby style lottery is NOT the way to go about it. I got lucky that time, having planned to go all season and booked my accommodation in January for a game in May only to miss out on the lottery. Luckily enough people got tickets through the lottery who had no intention of going, that I managed to get tickets for myself and my kids. I shouldn't have needed to go through the trauma, though, as the club charter states exactly how tickets are to be allocated.

the trouble with a points scheme (Readings for example) is how do you go about leaving the door open to New Fans?
With that scheme from the bare bones it looks as if you have no chance of getting a ticket (you do but you know what i mean). New fans may think "damn I have to go to at least 3 home games before I can even dream about an away match" especially if its a wednesday afternoon and they want to go on the saturday. You need something that leaves a wide enough door open to the future fans not just the current ones.

It has to be a rolling ranking system like how they decide who the top sportsmen are. i.e. your points are valid for a set period, after which they start falling off the other end and you need to keep going to keep them topped up.

In fairness to the FA the Englandfans system is rolling. You get a cap for each away game you go to and then at the end of the 2 year membership scheme, you get to carry one cap accross to put you just in front of the new members. However if you attend for obscure away friendly (Malta in 2000), you suddenly have a cap and are generally up and running.

It is not an ideal scheme, but it does reward ongoing loyalty, whilst giving a chance to those that are starting from scratch. The 70-30 split also helps.
