I think the cockle pickers who died in Morecambe bay were illegal immigrants, as are a large percentage of those employed in the sex trade. Surely it would be better to clamp down on the gang-leaders and pimps who are the perpetrators of the crimes that help bring illegals into the country, rather than the poor souls who are actually abused. Cut the criminals out and the number seeking to come here illegally will fall as the black economy declines. That should then make life easier for those who come as economic migrants, many of whom return home when their employment ceases, and those who come here genuinely to escape peril in their native country.
