I got escorted out of work today

I won't name the company, even though they treated me like poop yesterday. They used to do this kind of thing years ago but last few to leave have been allowed work out their notice. I'm happy that I've got a nice new job to go to and now time off, but gutted that I didn't get a proper chance to say goodbye to some good work mates. The director was almost apologetic that he had to do it. But saddest thing is that I wouldn't have left in the 1st place if it wasn't for my manager treating me and many other of my colleagues like dirt. This week alone, me and 2 others have handed in their notice and another 2 fellas suspended for fighting.

I hope you had the opportunity of an exit interview so you could drop the manager in it. Otherwise, a letter to the director will give you the opportunity to try and help your old workmates be rid of him.

It's fairly standard practise if the employer believes you could leave with company information that could hurt them. While you could well have copies of that information already, or have details stored away in your head, it is simply the best they can do to protect themselves. Damage limitation, that's all, and happens a lot. Tbh, it can be handled well, or badly, but the bottom line is they've down nothing wrong. Just feels a bit unpleasant for all.

I once worked for a contract security company in a well known high street clothing store. I asked to use holiday time to go and see my stepfather who had been taken into hospital. I was refused so told them they would have to find cover as I was going to have to go whether they like it or not. I went to see my Stepdad and returned to work 2 days later, I was greeted happily and even apologised to by the store manager. A few days later I had a meeting and they said they were restructuring some duties and that I would be concentrating more on security and not so much on the H&S side, which I had restructured and improved completely for them a few months before. To this end I spent a few days handing over H&S to another member of their instore staff and overhauling security procedures. The manager even said she was looking forward to seeing what I could do with my revised role. On a Wednesday the handover was complete and I went home for the day. At 10pm that night I was rung by the security company and told not to return to the store as I was no longer wanted there. I should have smelled a rat but I was a lot younger in those days. Utter bastards.

Not really seeing much here to surprise me. Was made redundant in October by a company that rhymes with CRAPITA. Before the union got involved and protested they wanted 19 of us to be escorted out of the back door of the premises in shame as if we had been sacked rather than made redundant. As it turned out we were then 'allowed' to be escorted out through the main offices. Unfortunately, the escorting bit tends to be standard practice but it can be done in a professional and not so aggressive manner. The reality was that had i been stupidly intent on trying to sabotage any PC sytems i would have had ample opportunity in the 2 week lead up to the final day and that would have played into their hands as it may have converted ny redundancy into a sacking.

In times of recession redundancies are an incredibly difficult thing for both employers and employees alike to deal with. However, good companies will ensure they have experienced HR professionals who can minimise the pain and ensure that people are treated with due respect. In my case they entrusted the task to two colleagues who had zero HR experience and my consultation meetings degenerated into confrontational farce. As it happens though my union were absolutely fantastic and gave me great support.

No, but I've been the one doing the escorting. If any of our employees hand their notice in for a rival company we would do the same. However it is not done out of malice in any way and usually on very good terms. It is in the interest of the business and not at all personal to the employee.

You kind of have to tell them as the work I'm in is quite specialised and the only one of it's kind pretty much in Britain apart from the other company I'm going to. So they would have found out anyway.

My advise would be to enjoy the gardening leave and don't take it personally. However, I think (not 100% sure) that to be told to go on gardening leave you must agree to it or there should be a clause in your contract to the effect that you may be required to go on gardening leave if you resign. Worth checking but otherwise enjoy the 6 weeks paid leave!!

If anybody ever handed their notice in when I had a pub I never allowed them to work their notice as they could do too much damage during that period of time. I would say ok and let them work that shift or part of it but when they came in for the next one tell them not to bother and to go home.

Long story short,the bird who was seeing the manager (well next in line anyway) in the office,we shall call her-daphne,said to me..................withe her fit little figure & blonde hair,blue eyes,fresh from watching "deep" throat porn on the companies net,said.....& i qoute-""dave, most people hand in their notice!!!""
