Paxton Dazo, have you now discovered the joys of Otis Redding?

He tops my list with classics like 'Tray a little tenderness', I've been loving you...' or tearing it up wuth 'Shake!' but so many of his other songs soon become fav's, a life tragically cut short.

I also like the Isley Brothers who used a fair bit of electric guitar after their early, standard motown stuff.

It drives me mad having to listen to crap rap played on somebody's ipod loudly on a bus. let's have some Soul.

Also, catch The Commitments, a film often doing the rouds on TV. All based around Sould but set in Dublin...it works.

Better than the shower of shite that gets branded around today. Give me The Four Tops over that c*unt Jay Z any day of the week. f***ing pure music, I love it, and I'm young. Long live Motown./QUOTE]

You ,sir, are a man of impeccable taste.
Get hold of a copy of "Standing in the shadows of Motown". It's the story of Motown told by the members of the house band.
Some of my favourites :
I heard it through the Grapevine - Marvin Gaye
Roadrunner - Junior Walker and the Allstars
Just a little misunderstanding - The Contours
Ooh Baby Baby - Smokey Robinson and the Miracles

Do what you gotta do - The Four Tops
Aint too proud to beg - The Temptations
This old heart of mine - The Isley Bros.

It may be on BBC i player, but Mark Lamarr interviewed Martha Reeves on Saturday. Absolutely entertaining and fascinating.

For a terrific soul compilation try 16 Funky Corners, which can be found in Resident Records. So good I bought it whist it was playing on the shops stereo.

For something new and local please listen for the Baby Charles album. Their varsion of "I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor," is brilliant.
