good start but you need to think long term about the implications of what you are lobbying for. I'm sure you've already thought of this but when you get asked these questions - you'll need a fairly sturdy answer!!

a) who is going to subsidise the cost of public transport for young people? there is always a cost of travel no matter the age of the person travelling....
b) 24 pub plan seems like a great idea but the implications of it are enormous - policing, licensing, alcohol tax, etc..... so you better have a good reason other than wanting to drink whenever you want!!
c) listening to young people is a brilliant plan - but in this political environment - the people that vote are the ones that get heard - is that what you mean?
d) centres for young people is excellent - although funding from where?

Good stuff though - glad someone is attmepting to stand up for what they believe in - just make sure you've got your answers lined up!! and a serious reason for wanting to enter into politics - hope you can keep yourself untarnished!!

Years ago, when I worked for East Sussex County Council and Bellotti was Chairman of the Education Committee, he initiated a series of Youth Forums across East Sussex (which in those days included Brighton and Hove).

I had to attend all these meetings, because my responsibilities at ESCC included local bus services (and bus fares and services were big issues even in those days). Naturally enough, Bellotti passed all the difficult questions to the council officers to deal with, while taking the glory for any easy stuff.

The funniest moment of the whole series of Forums was at Brighton, when a number of young people stood up to ask for condom machines to be made available at schools and council-run youth centres.

Bellotti just looked embarrassed and passed the questions on to the Chief Education Officer, who muttered some incoherent response along the lines of "complaints from parents ... bad press coverage ... responsibility for young people's moral welfare ... blah, blah ..."

The only sensible answer came from a Tory Councillor, a guy called David Barling, who simply stood up and said "When I was your age, laddie, we used to catch the bus into Lewes and get our free condoms from the Lewes Family Planning Clinic. Why don't you do the same? Get loads and hand them out to your friends. Problem solved."

Bellotti went apeshit after the meeting. "Totally unacceptable answer ... etc, etc."

Marvellous scenes.

But a vote winner for your manifesto, strike95.

Good luck.

Pull out of the EU ?

Wow what a fantastic idea...you'll get the Sun and Daily Mail readers voting for you anyway....maybe we could then apply to George Dubya to become the next most eastern state of America, despite the fact we are geographically part of, er....Europe ?

OK
1 - agreed
2 - why just young people? are you suggesting funding the neccessary improvements by increasing the fares of the working population? If so speak to some season ticket holders.
3 - As somebody who has been working for 7 years and still cannot afford to buy a house in the UK for the family that my girlfriend and I wish to start my only option is to look to move abroad. So i welcome closer ties and less red tape with europe.
4 - Great - constant drunken yobs shouting at all hours of the night on their way home. (ok - a bit 'bah humbug')
5 - Agreed.
6 - explain?
7 - Agreed.

some points i agree with - others i don't. That's politics i guess.

Thanks for the messages guys. I knew there would be a few that would not be keen on one or two policys. I could go on all day about why we should pull out of the EU. So I won't go to further on this message board if you wanna know why I will mention it when I get more time, (I am on a college computer).

I don't think all pubs should be 24 hours, Town, city centres fine, but residential I think it should still be 11am

I am thinking about whether there should be more discount cards for Under 18's something like that. Also try and stop Under 18s getting conned.

I'll help you with this one.

The answer is ... the same people who subsidise train services for fat cat commuters who do very nicely out of not having to pay the full costs of their journeys to and from highly paid jobs in London.

Don't get me wrong. Public transport subsidy is a good thing. Commuters should be subsidised. But it's a ridiculous argument to say that a government that subsidises commuter fares shouldn't also subsidise local bus fares for young people. Apart from anything else, an affordable local bus service keeps traffic congestion down and saves money elsewhere in the economy. It might also discourage young people from getting a car at the first possible opportunity.

I don't think we will be the 51st state of America because we would have too much influence on the Yanks, which they would not like, I am not Anti-European, but Anti-EU, i Think we should pull out and settle a Free Trade Deal with the EU. I don't believe we should be part of a United States of Europe, or America. We should rule ourselves and not let any foreigners rule us, why did our ancestors fight for us to keep our freedom, that is why we are a great nation. Don't sell it to Brussels, or Washington.

Anything else you want put on there let me know and I will also hold polls about certain policies on this message board.

Lets hope

Hope you dont get in to be honest. Hardly top of the political agenda 'getting a better deal in shops'. Also you seem to have worse spelling then me.
Not concerned with youth poverty, youth unemployment, exploitation of youth in our workforce, Higher education bill? teenage pregnancy levels or youth obesity?

Also why should young people get a better deal in shops when buying the same items as older people?

One thought to ponder Mr Yoof....the main reason we havent had a major war in western Europe for 50+ years is because of the EU, a trend incidentally which goes against the previous 1000 years.

I dont have much in common with brummies, northerners or scots but get along with them . In the same way because were in the same boat economically as Germany, France, and Spain were not going to wage war on each other. You dont fight your trading partners, because you end up harming yourself. Keep the EU, it stops us from destroying ourselves and our neighbours.

I think the system is a bit unfair, and undemocratic basically anyone who is in the West Sussex Youth Cabinet can vote for me. Not anyone else, I think the system should be open for everyone ithat is a young person in the Western half to vote.
