as well as League 1 Brighton, would you go and watch them instead?

Got thinking about this due to the distance to London or Portsmouth from Brighton and the whinging about the facilities at Withdean and prices as well as the low quality fare on offer in comparison.

But if there were a 'decent Premiership team in Brighton' it would BE Brighton, or at least a team that had grown and always been around, so we might already feel some affinity with them.

In my personal opinion, and given that I drive past Fratton Park to get to every home game, its a fairly conclusive 'no'.

It really depends, Icy.
Do you mean if a Premiership team somehow suddently "arrived" in the town one day, like in an MK Dons style franchise ? Or do you mean the equivalent of being in a town that has always had two teams, one in the Prem and the other struggling in the lower leagues ?

The quick answer for me is, if a Prem team "arrived", I could never switch allegiences. I'm Albion, I'm stuck with them, thats that.

If there was already an established Premiership team in Brighton as well as the Albion down in the third division, and I was looking to decide which club to support, I'd like to think I'd pick the Albion, because the Premiership is killing the game. I would struggle to find any real affinity for a super-rich club stuffed to the rafters with multi-millionaire foreign players.

if a new team walked in, im CERTAIN that 99% of people on here would stick with the albion

however, for casual fans out there i would say 90% of them would go and watch the premiership club

if the club had been here the ENTIRE time, then i guess it would depend on who you chose to watch - and that would come down to money, what have you been bought up on and what your friends do

and what do you mean by decent - everton, tottenham (ie been big but not the big 4) or birmngham, bolton, newcastle (plodding along going nowhere) or wigan, reading, portsmouth (new money jpohnny come lately clubs)

presumably not derby?

Was thinking more along the lines of if there was an established team in close proximity rather than in London or Pompey , say for the sake of argument Worthing and was a decent Premiership team to the standard to include teams like Reading or Pompey, not a Derby and they'd been there for years. Would you consider going to watch them rather than the Albion?

I must confess I'm running out of enthusiasm for the Albion again. I was really starting to get excited about the team until Richards, O'Callaghan and Bas left. it seems everytime we get a reasonable team starting to gel it gets broken up. Not blaming anyone as I appreciate the suituation we are in but I'm getting bored with the light at the end of the tunnel never getting much brighter. Yes we have Falmer but until the 1st brick goes down it no longer excites me.

This, I hope,is just a glitch in 25 years of Albion support but I no longer make a big effort to go and I think I WOULD wander along to watch a decent team now and again if it was close to the Brighton area and the match was attractive..

The quality of the football is starting to matter to me more than the blind allegiance. I couldn't support another team but we seem to be going backwards again and there really is no-one to blame and no short term improvement likely.
