His haircut was more violent than his tackle.

Well, he did turn Hawkeye against the rest of the Avengers and ripped a portal through space to bring an alien race here to help him take control of the earth to spite his brother. Perhaps that was in the ref's thinking...

Not seen ur, but soccer Saturday were saying it was never a red!

Why can't the old bastards at the F.A do something about shit refs, like allow the player wrongly sent off to bitch slap him on live t.v

On first look it might have looked like huddlestone lunged in 2 footed as the ref was behind the incident.

Expect the card to be rescinded though.

Although it is spurs so did make me laugh.

I just saw this on goals on sunday. The commentator said:

"Ooh, nasty, nasty. Could see it straight away, gary, he was never getting there first. Never getting there first, tom huddlestone. My first instinct was to say yes, that's a yellow card. Look at that. Ooh, no, he just...it's the bottom foot. He doesn't really catch him with the other foot, does he?"

Calm down everybody, I can see why the referee thought it was a red card challenge, from his angle. I would have called it the same in his position. Now that we've all seen it a hundred times, we know it's not a red card and even a yellow is debatable.

I thought Laudrup of Swansea oozed class in his interview about Chico's red card, the man is quality.

Chico's head-high lunge was fantastic! Amazed he managed to get his foot that high and even more amazed that the breeze from his foot missing the winger's head was still enough to send him tumbling - should've been a sending off and a booking for simulation as well

Megson got it spot on just there. Ben Shepherd is arguing about player safety and such, Kammy and Peter Reid are talking about it "being a man's game" and "you know you're gonna get injured", and Megson just said "[Ben]'s thinking 'I'm surrounded by dinosars here'!"

I was just thinking the whole "man up", "it's a physical game", "we know when it's deliberate attempt to hurt someone, when it is we'll give a red card, if not just get on with it" was making them sound like dinosaurs.

For me, it looked like the direction he was challenging in he was never going win the wall, and then he doesn't get the ball at all but does stud the foot of dawson. Definite yellow, and in normal speed in first go, can see why red was given.

Really, Kammy. "People are only going to go in for challenges like that if they win the ball". Well, isn't that the point? The laws are changing and evolving to improve tackling and player safety, that means not diving in wrecklessly, it means developing and improving your technique to not need to risk other people's safety on challenges in which there's a good chance you won't win the ball anyway.

At grass roots you're more likely to get away with that sort of tackle without even getting a booking. Problem is, in the higher leagues these last few years, referees have been criticised for not "protecting" players enough, so the Laws and guidelines have had to be clarified and revised to reflect this.
