Gutted. It was meant to be a nice, fluffy jacket potato with prawn cocktail filling and crispy salad with French dressing.

I've now chopped up the potato in chip-like shapes, eaten the prawn cocktail out of the tub and picked at most of the salad.

I need a BIRD. :(

And there was me waiting for some kind of breast milk joke :lolol:

There aint no short cuts IMHO. 2hrs in an oven on 180 should do it.

Then you open the oven, the smell wafting round your kitchen and into your nostrils, stick your knife into it's gorgeous crispy crust (whereupon a satisfying waft of steam is delivered), cram a enormous slice of butter in and watch it melt all over, maybe grate some cheese on the top, plunge your fork in and enjoy the sensation as it melts in your mouth.......

Shall we all sing that on the march tomorrow? :lolol:

Roll it in salt and olive oil, wrap it in tin foil, and bake it for 75mins on 180 deg.

Suggest next time:

You don't cook a potato the size of Bournemouth
You buy some salt and/or olive oil
You buy some tin foil
Make sure you have a decent oven.

Even one out of those four might have helped.

:lolol: A Microwave would be cheaper!

if you don't have a skewer, then stick an old (metal) fork in the spud, and keep it there whilst it cooks.

warning tho' - removing the fork you will always, no matter how careful you are, burn yourself on the fork.

more often than not, you'll rest your forearm against the bastard
as it leans at an angle in the sink.

Agreed, although I would recommend garlic salt if you have it. Mmmmmm

We have a coal fired Rayburn.

I have a feeling I might have put a couple of backing spuds in it last April. When it's time to get the thing going again (mid-October?) I'll check to see whether they're ready.

As someone said, long, slow cooking is the best way to prepare baked potatoes.

Are you mad ?????

Try 5 Mins on full power in a microwave and turn it over and repeat. Make sure you punture it liberally with a fork.

In an oven, Gas 8 (220 F electric) for 40 minutes.

I have a low power microwave, usually cook a couple and they tend to be big fat marfonas.
