What counts as an academy product? What age do they have to have joined in order to count as one of ours?
Three seasons between the ages of 15 and 21* (no explanation of the *)!
Hinshelwood has been here since he was a kiddo.
But he hasn't been sold ................................. yet.
White, Sanchez and Ferguson for example since about 16-17.
White and Sanchez would certainly have contributed to our rating on that table; most of our big sales - Caicedo, Cucurella, Mac Allister, Trossard, Bissouma for example - don't, I think'
Or someone like Gyokeres who joined at I think 19 but played in our academy to start with?
I think Gyokeres might have counted, but generally our academy players who've moved on haven't generated much money (by PL football standards anyway). Cochrane and Leonard, both now at Birmingham - half a million each, reportedly. The odd million or half million here and there might be a fortune to most of us, but in PL football terms we're still a long way behind.

The * means “or the end of the season in which the player turns 21.”

They are the rules for any player to be considered home grown for the Premier League 25 man squad. It can be at any club associated with the English FA.

UEFA also have a club trained player requirement which is very similar to our HGP rule. However a player must have spent 3 seasons (or 36 months) here to count as club trained for us.

For a player to be considered as “produced” by us then there are no set rules, I’d certainly say they need to have not turned pro at another club before joining us at least.
