How much electricity do smart meters consume?

I'm due to have my electricity meter replaced this week and I'm presuming it's going to be a smart meter. But I understand these things emit a signal 24/7 just like a phone on standby, just so that a meter reading can be taken automatically every quarter. Now, obviously this saves alot in meter reading expenses, but who is actually paying for all this extra power that they need?

Well, it'll be a teeny tiny amount compared to the amount you could save as a result of being aware of how much energy you're using, Shirley.

not alot but something and you pay for it. however you should be more concerned that they will be hacked and some scrote will switch your power off remotely.
