Poyet relieved to hang on to star man 9:00am Tuesday 1st February 2011
Albion have kept hold of Elliott Bennett after rejecting THREE bids from Norwich.
The transfer window closed last night with Bennett still an Albion player, to the huge relief of manager Gus Poyet. Chairman Tony Bloom stood firm, despite a final offer approaching £1million from Norwich for the Seagulls’ star man.
Asked if reports of a £1milion bid were accurate, Poyet said: “They were getting close but it wasn’t about how much, it was the way they did it, the way they pushed him. They really showed an interest which made it very, very difficult, so credit to the chairman.

Norwich City would have made their most expensive signing in five years if they had brought in Elliott Bennett, says chief executive David McNally.
The Canaries were unable to agree a fee for the 22-year-old Brighton winger. But McNally told BBC Radio Norfolk: "We made three offers, significant seven-figure sums. "If we had our way he would have joined us and it would have been the biggest transfer fee this club has paid since January 2006." That transaction was for Nottingham Forest's Robert Earnshaw, when the Canaries splashed out more than £3m on the Wales international.
