Crap manager I beat him in a coaching exam. No idea of tactics good at motivation

How can you say he was a crap manager with what he achieved with limited resources with Ireland? If a manger can make up for a lack of tactical nouse with motivation and he gets results then hes a good manager end of story.

Frank Rijkard at Barca. John Toshack at Real and other Spanish clubs. Johan Cruyff at Barca.

Was Harry Redknapp much kop as a player?

Harry Redknapp and John Sissons were two superb wingers at West Ham in the same team as Moore, Peters and Hurst

Reasonably succesful at all the clubs that he managed and becfame his countries national manager is that failure?

He got Swindon up, OK, then bought a few ageing pro's to Chelsea, got them to a Cup Final where they equalled the highest ever defeat. Took over an England side on a high from Euro 96, got then to the World Cup but we never looked like doing anything. The only way to describe him at Spurs was as a complete failure, hardly the stuff of a good manager.

Umm Graham Taylor?? At the end of the day people like Hoddle and Taylor became England manager as they were they only ones that showed any interest in the position, so no.

Would the likes of Alan Ball. Jim Smith. Ian Atkins or you have got the job if you showed any interest of course not because the first priority is ability to do the job . As an example why hasn't Brian Robson been offered the job?

Glen Hoddle is an excellent and talented coach, he is however, probably the worst man manager in the game. His record at Swindon and Chelsea was pretty good and he was no worse than the overrated Sven, at least his teams looked like they wanted to play attacking football. Unlike Sven's fear filled Italian style. Tottenham is a poisoned chalice much like Man City

The fact is in both 1990 and 1996 when Taylor and then Hoddle were appointed, nobody else applied and the FA appionted them. However I would certainly say that Taylor did not have the ability to do the job and although Hoddle started brightly, his crackpot views and inabilty to man manage meant that he has not up to it either.

It was only after the Keegan debacle that Crozier showed some bottle and they went foreign, having realised that none of the English managers were up to the job.

Bryan Robson was approached about taking over from Venables but was not interested and that was in retrospect a lucky escape for all parties.
