Don't treat this with any flippancy! 880,000 supporters managed to put an x in the box at the European elections. They will probably get about 40 seats. Bearing in mind they were a fringe party with none six years ago.
It's worrying.

It's worrying in that it may "legitimise" their agenda and push the established parties even further to the right on civil liberties and the way immigration and asylum are handled. On the other hand I am confident that the sumbags will never control any Councils or achieve real political power.

I just went to Sainsburys and got talking to the checkout girl about our clubhouse being closed due to the elections and she said she was not voting because there was not an NF candidate.

:nono: I think they may get a few votes you know - What a world we live in

I have been covering the BNP in Hastings and to be honest it is touch and go how they will do here.

Two of them are standing against the current deputy leader of the council BUT are in the poorer wards so could pick up a few votes on the too many asylum seeker card.

"Legitimise" their agenda? Wind your neck in,Are you trying to say immigration controll is not a legitimate issue?

If they win a load of seats its a relfection of a Democratic failure of other parties to either properly debate said issues or represent what people want.

Dont know about controlling councils, as for power it depends how they get on.

Their agenda is built on hatred for non-whites/"Aryans" rather than a legitimate debate about immigration in the context of both EU expansion and global markets. Equally I happy to have a debate about how asylum is handled provided it is not premised on the basis of "if their black, send 'em back" and deals with facts rather than tabloid fantasies.

Like them or not,to dismiss them lightly is foolish. There is every chance of them picking up many seats, due to years of poor government by both Lab and Cons.:albion:

That may be their agenda, although that is not what they claim or what I meant.

The issue and policy of immigration.

Sorry. Seems to be the case that when anyone tries to have that debate they are smeared as "if their black, send 'em back" therefor leaving the feild open to exstemists.

I have never seen you or MoH or the rest of the usual suspects stick up for someone smeared as a racist, probably by LI.
Bit rich I think.

If it's one, that's one too many

Why?

However distasteful they appear to be, surely the democratic way is to allow all to have a voice, perhaps you may think differently if you lived in an estate in Burnley/oldham etc.

just a thought.

Fair point,Harveys. That is why it so important the main stream parties treat race and immigration in a responable manner. Last weeks fiasco,of criminals being set free only helps the like of the BNP.Charles Clarke has played right into their hands.:albion:

I would imagine that they will get about 35-40 seats. i think they have been over hyped by the media. I think it will be interesting to see their results over all. Like how many 2nd and 3rd places they get.

It will be interesting to see how all the minor parties do. Think the Greens hope to do well in Oxford.

Anyway a Big :salute: to the 3 conservative parties that the red blue and yellow ones :D
