I agree with my learned friend @Guinness Boy - quite a bite to that wind today.

Out for three dog walks today for a total of 11 miles, and up high on the Downs walking into that wind wasn't pleasant, particularly on walk #1 of the day much of which was pre-dawn now the clocks have shifted.

Still in shorts though, but I am all year round for dog walking.

Big fan of that work. My dog walking shorts are retired from roughly mid October and have only reappeared once this year.

But, but, but - yes, @WhingForPresident is right.

In the wet, winter, mudbath months the novelty of owning a dog can wear off a bit. Everything gets soaked on the first walk of the day, Towels are wet and muddy from cleaning him off and you know there's two more walks to go, and nothing really dries in between.

And then there's the day after that, and the week after that and the month after that.

I'm arriving in the UK on Thursday morning and delighted to see the forecast. Especially after some terrible weather in Toronto so far this year (e.g. freezing rain all last weekend).

It makes a change from the continuous rain which usually greets me when I'm over.

As long as I'm wrapped up appropriately up top, my legs never feel cold.

I must "of" been a postman in a prior life or something.

What's the most consecutive days you've ever gone without meaningful rain, roughly?
I seem to recall about a month without rain in the summer of 2011. But not this early in the year, and even then I don't remember it being 10 big suns forecast - just no rain. And generally speaking, over the last 15 years or so, summers seems to have been a bit wetter.

Excellent weather for solar harvesting. I took in over 15kwh each of the last 2 days.

I remember from my geography O level, that there is somewhere in the Atacama desert in Peru, or maybe Chile, where there has been no rain at all for 400 years.

Sounds like you don't have a full array.
21.66 kWh for me today from 3.92 kWp system with poor pitch (and latitude 😕). The cold breeze helps with the production though.
Ours is 3.8kw system but it's on the flat roof on top of our house, so at a poor angle. The battery is 7.5kwh and it gets fully charged overnight before the sun comes up.

How does the wildlife cope with that?
And 99°F a week ago? That's insane!
If it had hit 100 it would have been the earliest date to hit that temperature since records began (for the last 30 years the average date for the first 100F of the year is May 2nd). Thankfully it was a blip and has cooled back down again - my iPhone is showing highs in the 60s over the next 3 days (which is signifcantly below the average of 80ish for this time of year).

But generally we seem to be breaking heat records every year and sometimes every month (and occasionally every day!).

As for the wildlife - well, if you're designed to live in the desert....

Not in Sussex, overall above average rainfall from September until end Feb. Virtually nothing in March though and groundwater levels now falling.
Really!? Above average? It really didn't feel like it - felt a very dry winter bar a spell of storms which obviously brought heavy rain (maybe why it was above average despite being very dry overall??)

I am enjoying the sunny spell but after taking over an allotment a month or so ago and I did a fair bit of digging, I could with some over night rain to actually grow stuff
