That is how it works, there are only 9 possible answers.

It works like this.....

The number you look for is exactly the same for every two digit number you add together, for each set of 10 numbers.

ie.
3+0 = 3, 30-3=27
3+1 = 4, 31-4=27
3+2 = 5, 32-5= 27

4+0 = 4, 40-4=36
4+1 = 5, 41-5=36
4+2 = 6, 42-6=36

etc etc

That means you can only possibly get 9 different answers from any possible number you start with.

9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63, 72 & 81

Look at the symbols on the chart. All the numbers listed above have the same symbol.

To make it look more spooky, the symbol for those numbers changes each time.
