Macintosh are ubiquitous here -- and they're not even on the list. (Not my fav, just surprised.) The don't travel terribly well, bruise easily. Some ridiculous % of our apples come from China now -- economies of scale & cheap labor -- while I go by small disused orchards every day, trees sitting there un-pruned and unpicked.

A good apple is bloody brilliant, but is it just me or is the combined texture of a powdery apple and a non crispy apple skin one of the worst out of all food stuffs?
