How Confident are you?

Not the real one
Must admit when I think about it I'm getting quite nervy. We haven't played well all season and find ourselves in the playoff final with the best team behind to two that went up. I think our players could do it but with the football that has been played over the past 6 months I'm afraid that one of those performances just won't wash on a big pitch at a national stadium. We need to come out of the blocks fast and have a go at City, we can't let them have the initiative in midfield and get their crowd roaring.
So what does anyone else think? Are you Confident? or is tomorrow really all about Falmer?

Every time we have been on tv this season (this will be the fifth time) we have won.

We needed to raise our game against Plymouth and we really did.
We beat QPR on tv as well.

The players will be up for it.

Today is the first day that I've started to focus on the game itself rather than the event, and like CS-I'm getting nervous.

I so badly want us to win, will be gutted if we don't so my thoughts are that we need to make as much noise as possible for as long as possible-regardless of how the game is going.

I didn't think we'd get by Swindon and not expecting to get by Brizzle so anything can happen. Regardless, I'll be yelling my lungs out in support of the lads.

To be honest I am quite confident. I know they beat us 4 - 1 at home but we were going through a bad time then.

There is a real "siege mentality" situation with the players - they are very focused and I think have a lot of inner belief in themselves.

Hope you are right BH. I'm staying away from any positive predictions in case I put the curse on 'em!

When you get big one-off games between teams that are close it is all down to mental strength, confidence and self-belief.

This is where MM has been superb and will have prepared the players to be up for it.

I'm backing Leon to turn on a Sheff Weds at home or Rushden away type performance, that will be good enough with our defence and a little more luck.

Big Chris and Ben Roberts have both had good experiences on the 'big stage' which will help the confidence for the rest of the team

I have feeling Leon will play himself into the shop window!! He's gonna show what he can do!

I don't mind as long as we win!!!

Ben Roberts has also had the nightmare scenario - fastest ever goal conceded in an FA Cup final :(

Way out west
I would say that my feelings are different, we have been going on all season about how important Falmer is to the future, we have been kept waiting for what seems like an eternity for a decision. Apart from the start of the season when SC was still with us I haven't thought about promotion since then, low and behold we are one game away from making it back to Division 1 at the first attempt, something we last did in the 87/88 Season.

The feeling back then was totally different as we were pretty good all season and put on a surge at the end to go back up with Sunderland, this year we have just ground out results by and large, the few games that I have seen I would hardly have described us as playing exciting flowing football, maybe I have just picked the wrong ones or am over critical. When I look at some of the teams we could play next season it makes me excited, the likes of Wolves, Leicester and Derby to name but a few, but I am worried that our squad will not be up to it, we need to bring in several new faces to give us a few more options when going forward.

I will enjoy tomorrow, hopefully the result will go our way, next season will be a real battle if we do win.

I think it will be a tight game , but our quality will tell towards the end. You make a good point there gully , if you went up could you stay up?? I dont think you could , another year in div 2 building your squad would do you good. I think we have a first division set up really , and if we were to go up with a couple of signings we would be mid table maybe in the top half , its good you've got to the final , but the only way you can make the next step forward is falmer.

ben roberts is in his best form of the season - only 2 goals in 6 games is it, or 7?

if he can carry on, and thwe defence do well, i can't see much getting past him. then all's we need is the midfield to create chances for the front 2........

although i have to say i reckon bristol city will sneak it 2-1

My sentiments exactly. I'm not really worried about staying up (should we get there) I just want to get there, with Falmer surely agreed by the start of next season could see a good season off. That however, is a long way off past tomorrow. Gully is right, our performances have been way below standard and forget the swindon excitement in the last 20 minutes, it was one of the worst games of football I've ever sat through. McGhee has got to get an attacking lineup going with Gary Hart told to run at defenders along with Jones and get Paul Reid next to Chippy in midfield. The defence has already shown that it can handle alot of pressure, so why not give us a fighting chance rather than another grinding defensive performance.
Wouldn't you rather go for it? In that case if we win or lose, you can be pround of their performance and go back with high hopes for next year. Alas, I think MM will just play the same same side with Oatway and Chippy sitting on top of defence and the back four hoofing up to the front pair. Leon and Iwelumo get no service and that just won't be good enough tomorrow. Play like that and we'll lose and come home depressed worried about next season(Keeping players etc) and biting our nails over Falmer.

So come on McGhee, get us up for it and have the fans behind you and really give us a chance. Cheers! *speach over*

Best not bother trying then.

If Rotherham, Walsall, Grimsby etc can all stay up for more than a season then so can we. Falmer IS the most important though, and if you could promise us Falmer in exchange for a walkover tomorrow I think we'd bite your hands off.
