Credit to him for using the system to his own advantage though.

Even in my wildest dreams I couldn't imagine England beating the Czech's on their form tonight. They were simply breathtaking.

RvN goal should have been dissallowed. Blatant advantage gained over the defender from an offside position.
Great game.
Agree don't think England would beat Czech's. Narrow, unlucky defeat maybe?

What a cracking game. Best international I've ever seen.

RvN should stand, according to the rules, but what a crap law that is.

I agree that England would struggle against either of those sides.

I thought Nedved was superb tonight. Best international display I've seen in a very long while.

Just laid £10 on the Czech Republic to win Euro 2004 at 7-1 on Bet365. Seems like a good price based on tonight's display. Not seen a better team yet.

RvN was what you might call "exploiting a legal loophole" in the offside rules.

He is a wily, greasy, horrible, cheating, diving, arrogant Man United tosspot.

Well put Lush. Couldn't agree more.

Is that the best game of international football you've ever seen? I'm scratching my head thinking about a better one. Possible Brazil 2-3 Italy in the 1982 WC finals when Paolo Rossi scored a hattrick but I still think tonight was better?

I was left thinking that neither of these teams could win it because they couldn't defend, but to be honest I doubt a team featuring Franco Beresi, Paolo Maldini & Bobby Moore each at their best could have contained the Czechs tonight. The long range shooting from both sides was unbelievable, the chances they created were superbly crafted. Liverpool fans must be wondering why Smicer and Baros can't play half as well for them (they both looked like world beaters as did Poborski), Koller looked a class act as usual and as for Nedved...

The worst thing about the result is that the Czechs have already won the group, meaning they might put out a reserve team against the Germans, thereby possibly depriving the Dutch of their place in the quarter finals - if as expected - they beat the Latvians.

Still there's a lot of inconsistency in the rules AS ENFORCED by refs. I wish the game had better and clearer rulings.
Latvia 'should' have had at least one penalty awarded v the Germans today. Holland 'could' have had that goal disallowed.
RvN DID get an advantage from his offside position, therefore is interfering with play by being offside right in front of goal.
The Dutch player was arshly sent off - but then perhaps the ref saw that slight intervention as a cynical professional foul? I think he saw it as enough to trip Nedved so therefore enough to warrant a dismissal.

The game was a corker though, no denying that - and the result - fair enough.

Agreed, and I have to say that the best way the Czech Rep can glorify the result of todays' game is by going all-out vs the Germans. They would win full respect from all if they do.
They played a clean and classy game, and were worthy winners.
I want to see them preserve that repute by doing the biz and putting themselves out v Germany (win or lose)

It's is within the rules of the game so it stands - credit the player for playing the system, the defenders should be more aware.

can see the bookies making a lot of money on the czechs. everybody seems to be putting money on them, then saying if only players like baros and smicer could play like that for liverpool.
well the reason they cannot is they had a once in a lifetime game. just like we did against holland in 96. cannot see them keeping up that form. they may struggle more against an ultra defensive team like italy.
anybody still remember they only equilised against latvia in the last 10 mins. after trailing for a long time.
they are a good bet because of the odds but i wouldnt get too carried away just yet.
it was a cracking game though and i am not saying they cannot do it. but there is a long way to go yet.

If you take the offside rule as it is written and in the way that FIFA showed it in that example at the end of yesterdays game, then you would be able to have a player stand right on the touch line level with say the 18 yard box, then when your team break through he could step up, he would not have been interfiering with play when the ball was made, so he could then be passed to to score. Utter rubbish.

As Ian Wright said how was he not gaining an advantage by being were he was. If he wasn't why was he there? When the ball was played out wide he was the only player that was gonna get the ball passed to him. FIFA need to look at this rule and make a change quickly imo.

Great game though.
