I've set myself a budget of £1500 - £2000 and want a compact but good sounding system. I don't want cables everywhere so am looking at all in one units. I'm currently considering the following;

Shanling MC-3000 Music Centre

and a pair of Opera Mezza Speakers

Are there any audiophiles out there who can recommend some alternatives.

Harmon Kardon soundsticks, I've got 'em for about £150, absolutely pristine sound.

By bringing this technology to our time aren't you breaching the Prime Directive?

Heres my suggestion, with that budget you'll get far better quality from a Cambridge Audio setup (preamp / amp and cd player)and a set of B&W floorstands. But as you say you don't want the tangle at the back, so you have to compromise something I spose, single units I don't think cut the mustard...
