what, so the city center would be hotter than the suburbs, and the suburbs would be hotter than the countryside on warm summer days?

Concrete reflects the heat of the sun whereas as earth and soil etc absorb it?

Causes of the "heat island effect" include dark surfaces--that absorb more heat from the sun--and less vegetation that would provide shade and cool the air.
