I always used to wonder why so many people moaned about builders: I know now.
We've been trying to have some work done on our house since March: we have architectural drawings and a structural engineer's report so builders aren't flying blind but it's proving to be impossible to find one.
We approached five who said they were interested; one didn't turn up for the appointment, four others did, had a look round said they were interested in doing the job and went away with the plans and since then ....nothing.
I can understand builders being busy, what I can't understand is builders who are busy and yet spend time looking at work, saying they're interested while they're obviously not.
So, is there anyone on NSC who knows of reliable builders - someone who'll do the job when they say they will. I'm set to ring a few at random but I could easily find another set of time-wasters and cowboys - personal recommendation is much better.
Even if you've got negative experiences, it would be useful to hear of them as that means I can strike that firm off the list.
Any information welcomed: we need this work done by January at the latest and we're running out of time now.
