Transport Secretary Ruth Kelly has set out proposals for a third runway and a sixth terminal at Heathrow.
Announcing options for consultation, she said without growth, the west London airport's world-class status would suffer.

But she said any expansion must meet "tough" noise and air quality tests.

Among options are a 2,200m third runway built north of Heathrow by 2020, and a sixth terminal, which will require the destruction of an entire village.

The new runway would be built north of the A4, and allow the airport to handle about 700,000 take-offs and landings a year. Currently there are 480,000 a year.

Other proposals include a sixth terminal to serve the new runway, which would require 700 properties to be bulldozed, including the village of Sipson, on the outskirts of the airport.

Naturally all the greenies and environmentalists have come out against this complaining of the noise and damage to the environment etc. But the reason I would oppose this would be that the M25 around Heathrow is already a perminant traffic jam, how the frick is it going to cope with an extra 200,000 plane loads of people!

No I couldn't care less about aircraft noise and aeroplane fumes. What bothers me is being able to drive without getting stuck in traffic.

If people insist on being able to fly to Prague for a quid (which is wrong in itself), then you need the planes.

Transport Secretary Ruth Kelly has set out proposals for additional parking and transport links at Falmer , soon to be home of Premiership hopefuls , Brighton & Hove Albion.
Announcing options for consultation, she said without growth, the football club's world-class status would suffer.

But she said any expansion must meet "tough" noise and food quality tests.

Among options are an extension to the 75,000 capacity stadium , built north of Brighton by 2020, which will require the destruction of an entire village.

About time we had the infrastructure to go with our ambition and place as one of the worlds leading tourist destinations.

As one article states the airport will still be behind Paris in terms of number of flights and is at least 17 years overdue as far as overcrowding is concerned.
