That's a really shame. I lived in Littlehampton for 9 years until 2021 and went there many times. We used to sit at the outside tables with our dog

I remember all those grubby hands in the salad bar, most off putting.

The salad bar and grubby hands is the least of it ( although nothing ever got chucked for the salad bar - just mixed up with new stuff until it was actually taken ). Try out of date chicken ( some times cooked from frozen ), untrained 'chefs' and fridges condemned after a council inspection and I give you ....... The Black Lion !!!!! Although getting a triple stack burger for a staff meal was quite nice just as long as you could keep it down.

I saw the smoke from my house and cycled up to take a look this morning. Restaraunt is completely destroyed, luckily it seems they have saved the adjacent theatre/cinema complex. Apart from being a long term eyesore right in the main tourist area, there will be lots of people fearing for their jobs as a result of this. As others have said, love it or hate it but it was rarely quiet in there.
