You see our poor transport is an urban myth. One 4 carriage train an hour to Preston or Manchester the other way after a game and a 45 minute trip crushed like a sardine rather than the 10 we have at home

4 carriages? The 17:24 to Preston was a 2 car sprinter which they somehow managed to cram everyone on. The 17:39 to Manchester was also a 2 car sprinter and a few Albion fans were left on the platform as there was not enough space.

Aye, reading some of the comments about the awfulness of Southern Rail is quite amusing.

In Bolton, even a Sprinter would be a luxury a lot of the time, with there rarely being any train service at weekends & an unreliable replacement bus service that can turn a 10/15 minute rail journey into & back from Manchester, into an hour of a job.

Sorry yes, you are quite correct they were two cars, we had the luxury of a four car from Manchester to Burnley before the game.

I think the term luxury is stretching things a bit. That 12:57 from Manchester was a sprinter plus one of those lovely pacers - those bus seats are very unforgiving on a 45 minute journey.
