Harveys at the Stadium

Some people (myself included) like Harvey's. Some people (myself included) can't stand John Smith's.

Ergo, some people (myself included) are snobs.

QED.

Not at all TLO, it's the attitude to anyone who doesn't like Harveys or even Real Ale that makes many Ale drinkers snobs.

It is, insofar as there are some decent analogies.

Where it falls down, as usual, with the real ale types, is the hard statement as fact, that people only 'drink pissy lager to get drunk'.

Its silly nonsense. Why not just accept that people actually LIKE lager? Even fairly weak, gassy lager. A good proportion of people at the stadium are driving, too, so they are certainly not just trying to 'get drunk' on their one and a half pints of 'pissy lager'. Just choosing a refreshing drink, that is their favourite from what is on offer.

Well most people drink alcohol because they like the feeling it gives them, even if it's to a minor degree (when driving). The drug. Add to that the taste of a decent brew. Some people aren't too bothered about exploring the world of the taste. That's fine.

No it's the sneering and looking down at people that drink John Smith's / Fosters (most prevalent from the real ale drinkers) that make people snobs.

One of the things we have found when going on cruises is that you visit so many places, it gives you a chance to taste different alcohol....for example, I normally drink Red Stripe, but I found out that the ones they serve on cruise ships is around 4 % but this barman from Kingston Jamaica reached down behind the bar and gave me a local version which was 8.5% and tasted nothing like the tourist stuff.

Same with wine...we wouldn't dream of spending anything over a tenner on a bottle of wine, but have spent $60 on a bottle on board....only the once mind and it was fab, but we got friendly with this sommelier on board and he chose our wine for us and he gave us pretty decent wine at a very reasonable price.

Harvey's I personally think is the best beer I have drunk and can drink it until I fall over( if I was allowed to these days) it doesn't mean I am a snob, it just means I like harveys. I also like magners cider, but am regarded as a philistine as " proper" cider drinkers think it is akin to drinking Asti rather than Moët

liking real ale doesn't make you a snob

looking down on those that don't like it, saying things like 'oooh at least i have a pallet', referring to every other type of alcohol as 'pisswater' or similar etc etc. makes you a snob

several of you have displayed these traits in this thread...no-one REALLY cares what kind of beer you like....seriously

As I said before, it now appears that Harveys will continue to be sold.

With a decision being " reversed". Now make of that what you will. Maybe Harvey's we're asked to drop their prices and told brighton to get lost, or albion accepted that it would be unwise to ditch them. THIS IS SPECULATION!!!!!!

Anyway as I said if you want to ban me, then go ahead, I was just repeating what I had been told.

Was the decision reversed, or was there never any decision in the first place?

I don't agree. I am puzzled why anyone would have an active preference for Fosters or John Smiths ahead of other similar drinks. I don't think this makes me a snob.

PURELY SPECULATION, but this is my guess at what has happened:

The club (or more accurately, the caterers) have said to Harveys “You’re too expensive. Drop your prices or you’re out”. They wouldn’t of course, have necessarily MEANT it. Standard bargaining tool.

Harveys then leaked this to a few select real ale afficianados in the hope of garnering support.

In the meantime, whatever negotiations were required, have finished, and Harveys is retained.

No firm decision had actually been taken, and certainly no decision was reversed as a result of a 4 hour thread on NSC or a post on someone's facebook.

Because some people have completely different tastebuds to others. Some people prefer to eat mass produced Cheddar Cheese, I prefer to eat goats cheese, same thing.

Do you not think you're being a bit precious? I think most mass produced lower level lagers are piss and I don't drink them. It's called a choice. I'm not telling anyone not to drink them, their choice.

I'm wondering why those that don't actually drink Harveys are posting in this thread, honestly. The OP's sauce was about losing a nice real ale, part of the days experience at the Amex.

Harvey's tweeted about 20 minutes ago that discussions were ongoing.

We have no reason to believe Harveys will not be available next season, some pending negotiations are in motion atm., they said in response to Bozza's query.
