My original comment was not to be taken as implied critisism in that I thought Harty did not give John a fait crack of the whip, it was more that as there was only one call comeing through I felt he should have been given more time. That was all!!!
All this..."Oh harty is the devil's spawn" is exremely wide of the mark and I for one think he does an excellent job. He is operating as a journalist...of course he is going to compare calls and ask people to comment on a previous call.
It is a public radio call in...he has no controll of people phoning in ie FG , Me, Ed, Ros or whoever.
All the bloke gets is stick from people and I think it is highly uncalled for. If Harty jacks it in, which I assume he will, we will get someone like Budgie or hawsey doing it, who to be honest in previous shows have not exactly shown the passion and belief in the club that the likes of Harty has done.
remember if it wasn't for the likes of Gulls Eye etc, things would not have been challenged leading to our campaignes and the survival of the club.
What the hell do you all want, The Supporters Club running the phone in? The Costa/History man hour? FFS
Ludicrous. Who has called him the devil's spawn? Are you suggesting that he can't take constructive criticism without taking his ball away and not letting anyone else play? If so, he shouldn't be hosting a phone in.
Trotting out the Gullseye line is so cliched, it is untrue. No-one is suggesting that Gullseye and the like aren't highly significant in the history of this club. But should this mean that Ian Hart can go on radio and we have to agree with every last syllable he utters because it must be the truth because he ran a fanzine once? The irony is that such sychophancy is exactly what the Pro Hart camp level at people who back Dick Knight and the board.
Hopefully, for the last time, let me state my position although I have done so many times before. This is in no way a personal attack against Ian Hart, SCR or anyone. It's not even an attack. I know that Ed is the same and is in contact with Ian. We are using a forum set up for discussion and debate to make constructive criticism about the way a phone in show with similar goals is being handled with respect to certain issues. For my part, I feel that Ian struggles to control his fanzine past at times and needlessly attacks/villifies genuine fans who have a differing opinion to him. This does not undermine his position/the phone in/his past expolits with Gullseye etc. I am stating an opinion in the same way he expresses opinion. He took the opportunity to question my motives live on Radio which is his perogative. I am not questioning his motives or suggesting that the Phone In should go - Ian should be sacked, etc. Umpteen fans support him - some maybe blindly - and the Phone In provides a useful conduit most times. My view, and the view of others on here are equally valid to his, yours etc. I could understand this debate if loads of people were slagging him off. A couple may have but most have been debate and constructive criticism - the point of NSC and the Phone In. But please don't keep trotting out the "He used to run Gullseye, you know" argument because it is a moot point. Nobody has every questioned his loyalty to the club/past endeavours.
Ian - I hope you take this and my other points in the spirit they were meant. Hopefully, after past correspondence, you understand I am not making personal attacks but just trying to contribute to a constructive debate. I always post my true feelings on all matters and I am not going to hold back because of "who you are" as certain people would like. I don't call the Phone In because I am normally on a bus, have no personal mobile phone and am not a confident public speaker. That
doesn't mean I am a keyboard warrior hiding behind a pseduonym making personal attacks (unlike a fair few on this board). Keep up the good work and feel free to ignore anything I have said - your perogative.
