Harty on the phone in /crowds

I was being sarcastic about Ken "the ghost" Brown earlier. But has anyone ever actually heard or seen our MD? Serious question!

Always quick with a cheerful smile, the affable Ken was looking exceedingly glum at full time yesterday and who can blame him.

A successful plan with any football team is to have club players who can be relied upon to fulfill their roles, and are going to be constants for their position week-in week-out, and ongoing for seasons to come. Changing faces, many loanees, switching positions and never having anything reliable from week to week, is why we are failing miserably.

I called the phone-in and mentioned the need for having home-bred players who mabe even supported the Albion as kids - but that was reaching a bit I know and Harty didn't concur. What I was trying to say really, is that we need the stability in the dressing room where it's not a bunch of invaders, strangers thrown together by availability, who were just in need of a job somewhere. Lads who know that BHA is their club, who feel a personal connection and responsibility towards the club.
Come the end of the season, we will be seeing the backs of so many draftees that stability is suddenly farther away than it has EVER been at this club. If anything, we will be closer in general feeling, to the team who almost went out of the league (and Hereford will be in the same division with us, too).

When you look at this it magnifies further, how much Wilkins had forged for this club. Even if it came with him almost inadvertently, by rote - it was part of the Wilkins package. From THAT legacy, Adams did absolutely everything he could - inadvertently and by rote - to ruin everything done.
Whether this is 'karma' for taking the job from the man who truly earned the right - is perhaps a little too winsome to consider. It wasn't meant to happen that way, MA didn't want that rocky road to disaster by any means - but it now looks like 'it was destined to happen'.
On another day Adams was a saviour, a genius, a legend.
On this one, he became a horror, a pariah, a destroyer.

Destiny is a greater force than a man. Dick Knight and the board do not control destiny, they may influence it - but not control it. On this one they forced a change in it that has just spiraled downward, crashing horribly to earth. It wasn't broke, but they fixed it, and fixed it good and proper I'm afraid. Perhaps the situation CAN be redeemed, but it will require humility, care, and the bringing of heart back to the club.
There are those that think this requires getting rid of existing coaching staff, but I don't think that would be the answer.

I heard you on the phone in yesterday, NMH. You spoke very well and it made a change from the usual standard of caller.

Even though we don't have the Kudos of Chelsea, a lot of the youngsters still enjoy meeting the players. My son couldn't stop talking about when Charlie Oatway came down to his College. I work part time in a youth club and can't understand why the club doesn't send out a load of Junior seagulls membership bumph. There are hardly any kids with an interest in Brighton, cos if their parents don't go they feel no "connection". They are more "connected" to Chelsea/Man U, sos they get to see it on the TV. I agree with the comments about more targeted promotion/marketing especially aimed at the next generation.

Have you contacted the club and actually ASKED them to send the youth club something? If you want something done properly, do it yourself!

Mickey Adams again wasnt allowed to do his job. He was told there were funds available, umm lie Mr Knight.
When the going gets tough the Albion fans moan like f@@k. Its about time you all got behind the team and to hear your voices cheering the Albion on not moaning like a bunch of tossers.
Given time which was the theme for Mr Adams, and desire from a group of albion backstabbers ie Mr Forster !!!!Look beyond your noses - guess you dont have your own business?
Short sighted Albion fans -
Good luck Mr Adams and all the best. Maybe you can join Crawley and by-pass Brighton.

I am concerned that this post by crazy17horse is only his 2nd post which would suggest that he has registered just to post this and make a point but for some reason it has been either missed or ignored by the people on here. Does he/she have a very close relationship with either the club or MA and is trying to tell us something.

Ssssshhhhh...the key is not to let them know they've been rumbled, no matter how obvious it is. This stuff is gold dust. Imagine Forster's dagger poised over Metal Micky's slumbering frame...

Are you kidding? That was one of the most crazed and mixed-up posts I have ever seen on here! If he/she had a close relationship with the club then they ought to be held off as far away as possible.
MA "wasn't allowed to do his job" ????? Bull shit.
Albion fans moan?? Well no shit Sherlock! What fans wouldn't when watching this - and let's remind 'crazynumberhorse' that fans get behind the team at EVERY kick-off, and are actually comparatively patient about misses and mistakes, and at 1-3 down yesterday WERE cheering like it didn't dampen spirits.
"backstabber Forster"?? That doesn't warrant a response! Just an idiot, and announcing their gibbering intent with a first post. Follow if you want, "you should know you followed a few". Follow the shoe, no wait..throw away the shoe ..follow the gourd.
It defies belief, and certainly defies credibility.

Thanks Ninja. It's a just a few moments to try and say how I see it, but hopefully I make sense to someone.

I listen to the phone-in as much as I can even if not calling, as Harty does present a balanced and interesting show even though we don't always share the same view.

Do we know if MA was working under any restrictions or with interference, and if the money said to be available was or was not available, or whether the loanees he got was all he could get because of financial restrictions. No of course we dont we only know what we are told from the PR that comes out of the club unless somebody with knowledge speaks out. Perhaps MA was working under severe restrictions!!!

I cannot believe that a manager who was so good could comeback and be so bad with his choice of players etc.

A disappointing turnout yesterday considering we could have added another 1000 on the gate with more awareness made via the Argus making it front page news and local radio promoting how vital the last few games are.

Well, do you sincerely believe that after that manager was "so good", that the board would say "okay Micky, we are doing things differently - there won't be any money available for you, and this time we'll be calling the shots". Then they part by mutual agreement after things were discussed with MA.
I know you won't want to believe that MA was bereft of ideas, and that Robbie Savage would have worked at any other club - but look at what Adams achieved after leaving us the first time - have all the clubs hired him only to have him hamstrung with constraints??

Blaming the stadium is a golden oldie. It has been called "fortress Withdean" before now, and I've witnessed matches with loads of atmosphere there too.
Yes but that was the early years in which was obviously about to ware off,but yes i agree you can't keep blaming the stadium as we all know if we are successful on the pitch the crowds will flock in.:D

Withdean was a novelty after playing at Pissfield , if you're looking to apportion blame then look no further than LDC and FPC. They cost the club £Millions and sadistically prolonged the agony of playing in a Conference standard ground.

You made sense to me. I always listen to the phone in, I think Harty presents it well, dividing opinion is what makes a good show. I've never rung in though, I'd rather have a proper conversation rather than just a couple of minutes to make a point but not really talk it through too much.

I would be in favour of Harty hosting a more in depth show, at some point during the week on BBC Sussex, a few hours of fan opinion, so he'd have time to talk with the callers more in depth. Would be a good programme I think, I'd listen! And I only ever listen to the radio for the Albion commentary for away games.

timbha is dead right when he states the product has to be right to attract the punters, its a complete waste of time getting youngsters into the ground to watch the standard of football served up this season.
In the third division [South] we had gates around 30,000, does this prove the point?
