it certainly is now, in observer food lists and everything. like all brighton institutions, it has only recently been discovered by people who write or contribute to these sorts of things though, helped (not wrongly before tlo jumps down my throat for not preferring the brave new world of the city by the sea) by the council propaganda machine.
i dont suppose many of these journos used to stop in as a treat after being dragged round the open market and the co op by their mums though, in fairness. so you cannot blame them for enthusing. i still love it but the captains table saltdean takes some beating. another award winning chippy locally.

Mussel Row in Littlehampton does great fish and chips with triple cooked chips plus the fish is often caught off of LA.
Suprised you had a good meal at Ramsdens, also think fish factory is overated thats the one in Worthing and Littlehampton - frozen fish from my experience.

In the words of my brother in law who is a fisherman off of LA. That is an exageration as there is very little caught now commercially off of Littlehampton certainly not enough to supply a fish and chip shop. Also most fish is seasonal at various points around the English coast so we are now coming up to the end of September early October when Herrings are the foremost fish caught off of the South Coast.

It's not a fish and chip shop it's a restaurant.
The local fishmonger on peir road supplies quite a few local restaurants with fish in limited numbers.
Sole and Plaice are often available caught out of LA and also Huss. Every now and then you get Cod as well.
Your right fish and chips shop sell hundreds of fish each day and could not be supplied by local fishing boats. it's well worth popping down there to see what they have got, squid and crab from Selsey are often available to.
I'm sure there must be similar available at shoreham and newhaven?

Sorry misunderstood you I thought that you were saying it was a Fish & Chip shop. Local caught would be possibly enough for a restaurant as they only use limited amounts and as you say plaice and sole are caught which are either not used in chippies or the plaice are not big enough. The amount of cod that my brother in law has caught is dropping drastically because the Spamish and French trawlers are coming in so close and using nets with smaller mesh so as to get the fish that are smaller than they used to be.

That is very good if you have the fish cooked in Mazo Meal rather than batter.
The best I have ever had is a Fish & Chip shop and restaurant near Portobello Road in London, cant remember the name, but my brother took my wife and I there when we went to a show one evening. It was very expensive about £13, I think for Cod and Chips but they were absolutely fabulous and generous portions.

Anywhere is better than Ramsdens overpriced & overated fish & chips. Even that place up Guildford Road near the station.
