I get that Southgate had to make decisions for today's announcement before the verdict came in, but Maguire has to be dropped immediately. Football needs to make a statement, drop him from all games for the next year and then allow him to be rehabilitated back into the team for 2021/2 season.

'do you know who I am?'

'yes, an entitled pr1ck who thinks he's better than everyone else!'

Talksport reporting he's been found guilty of aggravated assault, resisting arrest, AND repeated attempts of bribery.

Southgate must be so proud.

Southgate hasn't got the intelligence to look beyond big club CB. Bang out of form, responsible for a lot of opposition goals quite recently and now guilty as charged of assault and bribery.

Regarding the Dunk angle to this, don’t let’s get our hopes up.

There must be a 17 year old at Chelsea or ManU who can take Maguire’s place. Southgate frantically thumbing through club development squad lists.

That lad at Leeds looks pretty good ? Southgate only picks from big clubs.

If Dunk got a call up solely because of this, I'd be fully be behind him if he told Southgate to go **** himself.

John Terry was and he was miles better than wooden Maguire and he was dropped purely on the accusation of a crime, he was never proven guilty but still the best CB of his generation was dumped.

This is going to show up just what a clueless idiot Southgate is. He doesn't know what to do without his favourites.

Think this shows Southgate to be a mug IMHO. The interview he gave explaining the decision is cringe and patronising 'we're great mates', 'if you know about management you know you need to make this decisions' etc etc. Bellend. He is just a populist windbag.

Said it awhile back he should have found an Irish grandparent and played for a team that has passion not a load of millionaires who in general have little in common with the fans.

Incredible that 1) this idiot was called up and 2) the idiot Southgate actually named him in the squad earlier.

Stupidity of the highest order. Only bloody England. How the hell did he come to the decision that Maguire was deemed worthy of a call up? I would be absolutley cringing if I was GS. But if I was, I wouldn't have picked the berk in the first place.

Worthy of a resignation from GS? I believe so.

He'll pick Phil Jones.

Has to now be replaced, surely.

Sterling was dropped for a minor scuffle, Maddison dropped over the casino incident. For his integrity and consistency, Maguire must go.

Agreed - massive, massive error of judgement on the part of GS. At the barest minimum he should have said he was 'resting' Maguire, particularly knowing it was in court straight away.

What are two of the most long standing stereotypes about the English? That our football supporters are hooligans and that English people act terribly on holiday. Now we have one of our most high players convicted of assault and bribery whilst on holiday in Greece. Amazing.

It's all he had to say...we've not chosen him because his head isn't going to be in the right place. Simple. Not actively defending the clown!!
