Harley's Free Kick

Even the official site said 25 yards - never! It was nigh on 30... Not very often you see a free kick go in from that far out - seemed to gather pace too - pure class...

We've lacked a dead ball specialist since Benno went - I think we've got one now :clap2: Would like to see him take more of the 'crossing' free kicks though - Noone took a few yesterday.

Must have been near 30. If you look at the stripes of the pitch, there are 3 from the goal line to the 18 yard area so approx 6 yards each, and the free kick was on the edge of the fifth stripe, thus 30 odd yards.

It was just over 30 (5 stripes of grass). Unless the 6 yard line is only 5 yards from goal, and the area is 15 yards.

It did look too far out to strike at first in my opinion, he proved me wrong quite quickly..

Ditto! Gladly proved wrong! It gained pace - was incredible.

I hadn't even finished my 'Is the new guy a bit of a dead ball specialist?' question to the folks in the next seats before the ball was in the back of the net!

I said to the guy next to me just as he shaped up that he's not scoring from there. Cue pandemonium and much grabbing of stranger. If it was you in the WSU row L (Not the usual guy seemingly) then I apologise, though also claim the goal.

Exactly. It was 5 x 6 yards, plus a couple. Combined with pace, accuracy and dip. The goalie wasn't expecting that. The Football League Show loved it.

if he can do that from time to time, we have an incredible player

Just before he took it, I said "Shame we can't score from there."

I intend saying that every match now. :)

My faux pas was much worse, I turned to the bloke next to me and said "oh, the refs just indicated that it's an indirect free kick" I never cease to amaze myself at the level of my twattery at times.

I said to my boy that although he is a dead ball specialist, this ones a bit far out. It was glorious and I am so pleased I was wrong. He looks good anyway, I mean he is not scared of a tackle and does come back to help out in defence. I think Noone's goal was good, but Harley's put it in the shade really.

This may sound like crowing but it is not intended, as Ben said he would float it to the far post for Greer or Dunk but I said he would have a shot as he had the ability and that was one of the reasons why he was bought.
