I'm not. There does not seem to be much interest in rugby in Brighton.
But is that partly because there isn't a successful team? For my own part at international level I'm just as interested in the English rugby team as I am the football team (although I appreciate you're not interested in either!) and I love watching the big Heineken Cup games whereas I don't give a toss about the Champions' League. (The Heineken Cup is rugby's version of the Champions' League).

However I don't follow a club team as I refuse to follow one of the London premiership glamour teams and the Brighton and Hove clubs are at .... well actually I'm not sure what level they're at but it's well down the pyramid, a bit like supporting Worthing at football when you really want to watch Liverpool. Consequently, yes I would be interested in watching a decent Sussex team in a decent-ish ground.

That sounds like you're a lifer but I'm sure I read it on NSC when you started supporting them, which can only have been a few seasons ago.

Since being in the West Country I've been saying I would go along to a professional rugby game because, like most on here, I've been to a zillion Albion games home and away and am quite interested to sample an atmosphere were there is no segregation, lots of beer and no animosity between rival supporters. I've been here nearly 11 years now I think and I've still not made it to a game.

(I did make a 6 Nations game with Arthur last year - quite a good crack, but give me football any day please.)

yes a couple of years ago, my mrs suggested we went as she gave up on football many years ago, so as I knew the Maj, I thought it would be a good way to start and it was. We have been a few times now ( I think her favourite was watching Irish vs Newcastle when Johnny Wilkinson was playing...as I had to restrain her when he got injured and she - and hundreds of other women- wanted to "rub it better" ).

The atmosphere is really great especially when playing other "irish" teams, like Munster and Ulster, all sat together enjoying the banter and of course you get treated like a human being as opposed to someone who was only there to fight with the locals. It is always lively when west Country teams come too, Gloucester have a very vocal boozy following, but with none of the menace that seems to be prevalent at football matches.

Of course my Mrs is very much a fair weather fan and wont go if its cold or wet...

But it makes a change from football occasionally. ( and the Maj is a superb ground to sit in the main stand)

There was a rumour circulating a while ago, ( i heard it a few times from different people) that London Welsh were looking to move down to The Amex. Probably nothing in it, but certainly if a decent team relocated out of London as wasps and saracens did( Wycombe and Watford) , and came down to the Amex, I would certainly go along. Yes I know its a bit "franchise" but it may work.

I went to one match at the Memorial when I lived in Bristol and was utterly perplexed by the entire experience. Not only did I not understand the match, I was led to believe it was going to be all unsegregated convivial boozing and backslapping, when in fact it just turned out to be markedly dull.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, it's funny how no one kicks up nearly the same stink about rugby clubs moving areas as they do about football clubs, and yet the reasons are the same. But yes, I'd love to see London Welsh at the Amex. Pity it's not London Scottish though as I have no Welsh blood in me whatsoever.

I play for hove under 14's
we are currently top of our league(Sussex B West) after playing two games. Both of which were meant to be our toughest of the season. I've been playing for almost 2 years now and its been good. I have to say i hate watching it but love playing.

Worthing play in National League 2 South, about the same as Division 4 in Football (Crawley Town) etc. They get crowds of a few hundred. Rugby is a minority sport, I have to accept, so watching Worthing means you would be seeing a good standard.

I've played in National league 3 south (before the restructuring) with Esher and trust me it's a very good standard, Worthing are playing at that same level, so if you want to see some good live rugby, pop along to Worthing.

Agree with the post above. Worthing are at a good level. Currently top of the table, and recently beaten Richmond at home. Definitely worth a look. £8 entry for non members. Hoping that the Quins run ends at Wasps this weekend. Allez Allez Allez.
