McGhee said in today's Argus he is going to play him in midfield in the pre-season friendlies as they need more "quality" in this area and thinks Harding could be the answer.

It also reveals he and Virgo have both been offered 3 year contracts.

It also mentions Iwelumo was absent again from training yesterday, so it looks unlikely he will sign for us.

What in Jonah's place! Harding may have done well in defence last season, but the one thing he was let down by was his distribution. If you're gonna stick him in midfield you need to be sure he can find a blue and white shirt.

I always get Harding and Hammond mixed up but im sure it was Harding who was playing at left midfield earlier in the season against Colchester away and a couple of home games.

The words Set, World, the and Fire certainly dont spring to mind in regard to those performances. I think we got 1 point from 9 when Jones was suspended at that point of the season.

i remember harding played left wing away to plymouth, and yes hannibal, he hardly set the world alight,
i feel he doesn't possess enough pace to play in this position

harding on the wing instead of jonah?

if mcghee does that, i am gonna act like like a twat and WRITE a LETTER to him. It would be a fooking disgrace.

Harding has improved and got a lot more confident since he played in midfield for the first team. He also played more games in midfield for the youth team than he did at left-back. I think it will work.

Where does it say he'll play left wing?

I guess it doesn't but that's the obvious place. He's played there before, and is too light weight to play in the middle of the park.

It doesn't say left wing at all. In fact I thought they were talking about the centre as he talks of the bite that charlie and chippy offer and needing something different.

oh god no. the lad's only just broken into the first team as first choice left back, what's the point of moving him to a different position?

don't get me wrong, he's a great prospect for the future, but he's still got a lot to learn about playing left back, never mind becoming a midfielder.

Could he play on the right and put Hart up front seeing as we have an alarming shortage of strikers?

Spot on i think Uncle Buck.
Im pretty convinced we are going for three at the back with wing backs.
Harding therefore might be an ideal wing back.

I remember seeing Harding play left wing against Lecicester last season in the pre season friendly at Withdean. He looked pretty good there on that night and was heavily involved and certainly gave their Right back plenty to think about.

He broke into the side as a midfielder. He played left wing against Leicester and was brilliant. Everyone was on here saying what a good game he had. I seem to remember he set up Knight brilliantly.

However that was a friendly. In the league games early last season where he played in midfield he looked nervous and out of his depth.

However when he played in defence he looked a prospect. Do not forget that he can also play in the middle of defence. Him as the extra centre back and Mayo as wing back????

He'd going to get a go in pre-season. We'll soon find out if he can play there or not. I wouldn't write him off this early though. New manager, been a first team regular, confidence should be high.

No harm in trying him pre-season, however I doubt he is the answer as a left midfielder, however as a wing back I think he could be the business. It will also mean that there is an extra defender to cover his lapses (Swindon at home), which can only be good.

He is not going to have any particularly hard games in pre season though.

I am sure he is perfectly capable of playing well in midfield against non league opposition.

He played well at centre back against Barnet last year but I do not think he would be good enough to play there in the 7up championship as he is too lightweight. And we have 4 better young centre backs anyway.
