Albion*boss Chris Hughton has urged his Championship leaders to be more clinical after surviving a scare against rock-bottom Rotherham.
Hughton is proud the Seagulls, five points clear at the top, are now the only undefeated side in the division.
But he wants them to be more ruthless after letting Rotherham back into the game at the Amex last night.
Goals in each half by Tomer Hemed and Dale Stephens put them in charge before substitute Jonson Clarke-Harris headed the visitors straight back into contention.
Hughton said: “Probably that’s my only disappointment, because we can’t control games for 90 minutes against anybody in this division. The division is too tough for that.
“We needed to manage the game a bit better at 2-0 up and made sure we kept possession and we need to be more clinical. We got into some very good areas and for the amount of ball we had in the final third we could, and perhaps should, have had more goals to show for it.”
Albion are a point further clear than they were at the beginning of the evening and are the only team unbeaten after home defeats for Cardiff and Birmingham against Hull and Nottingham Forest, two of the Seagulls’ early season victims.
Hughton told The Argus: “That is an indication of the start we’ve had, which has been excellent. I don’t think any of us could have foreseen it. We had a good pre-season, we’ve had minimal injuries, but at the moment we are doing enough to win games.
“We probably haven’t had the ultimate, outstanding performance in a game but that is this division. At the moment we have got enough in the team to win games which is great to see.”
Kazenga LuaLua, suspended last night, is available for Saturday’s trip to Wolves, which is followed by another away game at Bolton.
