Still the most exciting player that I have seen live playing for the Albion. :)

Vicente may equal or exceed that this coming season.

But for now, Ward is King. :)

My first - THIS

Happy birthday Peter, back at the Amex early season?

Peter Ward 57 years old, blimey where did the time go? All the best Wardy.

Wardy in his pomp was untouchable, the ability to ghost past players and make them look complete mugs. Deceptively powerful shot. Could turn a game in an instant with an electrifying burst into the box. The sense of anticipation in the crowd when he received the ball.

We have had some special players over the years since Wardy's era but IMHO only Vicente has that x-factor that elevates him close to Ward's status. If Vicente is able to consistently show the form he developed in the latter part of last season then we are in for a real treat. If we can find a quality and muscular CM to play alongside Vicente and allow him to concentrate on his attacking role then we could see something very special.

Good grief !

All this time and I'm still seven years older than him.

Happy Returns - and many of them.

Our three year old grandson Jack has been spending lots of time with us recently.

His brother was one in July and amongst the cards he got was a large badge with Number 1 printed on it.

Jack asked his mother what the badge said. She told him, and added "and who is number 1, Jack?"

He thought for a second and proudly replied "Peter Ward!" We were in a spot of trouble I can tell you.

It makes me feel old - I remember when he was 18. They were wonderful days and he's still the most exciting player I've seen in the blue and white stripes.

Judging by Vicente's dreadful miss v Reading at 0-0, which Wardy would have slotted in 100 out of 100, he will be a long way off the excitement of 36 goals next season. Wardy WILL remain untouchable have no doubt

Not a fair comparison. I count myself as Wardy's biggest fan but i remember him missing a few. Different players, different era's but the same visceral excitement.

Vicente can be exciting beyond belief but he will become a legend like Wardy only when he comes to games as a spectator, loves the Albion, flies from his home for Albion occasions and turns out for the REMF for the love of it.
