Just picked up Phoenix by The Warlocks which is a few years old, but new to me and a fine listen it is too :clap2:

Same as with Ideas Above Our Station by Hundred Reasons...

Saw Jarvis at the dome and he was brilliant. I also saw the streets and blur and glasto and thought they were both amazing.

Been working like a dog the last few days hence the delay...but I do love threads like this.

Right.

My favourite this year so far has to be Fever Ray. It is stunning, it really is. (and thanks for the nice words Buzzer :) ).

I've really grown to like the new Super Furries album. Not their best but it has some great moments...and weird song titles.

Another new notable new album (and band) I've got into is Grizzly Bear. I listened to their new long player about 5 times, didnt think much of it, couldnt see what the fuss was about..so I filed it away. Then a few weeks later the sun was shining and I heard this great summery tune one the radio which I recognised...turned out to be them. Been playing it ever since but it works best of a balmy Brighton evening with a beer in hand.

I have been playing the new PJ Harvey and John Parish album a lot.

I love the recent Franz Ferdinand album. The first two were okay but I love their new direction. They have some great synth sounds.

Claude Von Stroke has done a magnificent tech-funk-house-minimal-whatever mix for Fabric.

As for gigs I have been totally blown away by Blur. See my other thread. I never got to The Specials gigs but i did see them at Glastonbury and they were incredible. It's easy to forget how many great tunes some bands have.....and The Specials are one of them. They have their obvious hits but hearing You're Wondering Now, Doesnt Make it Alright and Do Nothing was a veritable treat. I'd kind of forgotten about these gems.

I also saw PJ Harvey and John Parish as a present from the lovely Frau Tubthumper and he and she (and sie) were excellent.

I also went to see Gallows. I couldnt listen to their music at home but as a live spectacle they are something else. And I speak as a thrash metal/hard core vet. I even had a go in the mosh pit. I looked a right sight clutching my man-bag.....sadly i lost my iPhone though. Think this sort of thing is best left to the youth.

Albums I've revisited are Here Come The Warm Jets by Brian Eno. Very influential.

I'll repay the compliment and purchase The Juan McClean. I've got some of their stuff on DFA compilations which I like.

And I hope the Felix Da Housecat night next Friday at Coalition is as good as his previous nights in Brighton. I sense some serious inactivity on Saturday :)

Been playing the new The Macabees album a lot recently. I've had it a while but the new single has given it a second wind for me.

I saw Saxon in London a couple of months back and was blown away

How to fill a stage/hall with light and sound at it's best

The story was that Spinal Tap were based on them

personally i thought invaders must die to be one the best albums this year, as for gigs im stuck between the prodigy and take that.
the prodigy at the brighton centre was mad and i love the prodigy anyway and take that i went to as there was a spare ticket expected a load of old women screaming to four blokes doing a dance routine, when i left wembley i thought of it completely differently, music is a bit rubbish but the boys did put on one hell of a show.

No albums have impressed me this year. Will perhaps sound out some of the recommendations here.

Best gig: Blur at the MEN, but hoping that Pearl Jam deliver in three weeks at same venue.
