The defence certainly did. (Question - do you include Hoyte in that?)

Like you said, the midfield and forwards worked very hard, I thought.

I didn't include Hoyte. All the kamikaze stuff wasn't from his side.

The first goal El Abd just wasn't tight enough, and Tunnicliffe inexplicably failed to cut out that low cross, that should have been a routine clearance.
The second goal we had Elphick, El Abd and Dicker (I think) on the left side of our defence all jumping for the same ball and missing it, leaving them in on goal for another tap-in.
The third goal, how to turn attack into defence with two swift simple passes, step forward El Abd and Elphick.

Hoyte must be horrified at what he's witnessing. Either that or he's laughing his socks off at the bunch of jokers he's lining up with at the moment.

Fully agreed.

Just as an aside (and like we should really care), I suspect their manager was tearing his hair out over two of our three goals.

I boo'd, because defensively we were an absolute joke in that first half. I felt sorry for the likes of Bennett, Forster and Dickinson who were working their BOLLOCKS off to get us back in that game, only for our defence to hand the game back to Hartlepool on a plate with some amateurish, unbelievably slack play. A complete lack of organisation, positional awareness, and worst of all, concentration. And as it turned out, they cost three people their jobs that afternoon.

They f***ing deserved every boo they got.

I am not sure I'd agree even if it could be selective ...the defense were atrocious but they didn't deserve some of the poisionous bile being spouted by some of the idiots in D block. I am with Notters in that respect ...it was embarassing and in no way going to motivate the likes of Bennet and Dicker who were having a reasonable game......

It's a team game, and everyone to a man is responsible for defending (as Slade pointed out) - they are all professionals, they know when they have underperformed as a team.

It's a fact of life, you screw up in your job at Sainsbury's, your spotty teenage boss shouts at you, do the same as a footballer, you get booed. Simples.

You honestly believe that professional footballers cannot cope with that? If they can't they shouldn't be there at all.

If I screw up my job in sainsburys , I would expect my spotty teenage boss would bollock me ....but I wouldn't expect him to bollock all the others on my team ...not if he wants to keep them motivated . I agree they do need to be thick skinned but Bennet is a kid and one of our best porspects in ages ....cant imagine he is looking forward to the next home game. Like I said it was more than booing in D block ...it was downright hateful......

i loved the boos on the radio, made me shivver!

it's like f***ing gladiators, i think the defense should've stayed on the pitch and then have to fight f***ing tigers and shit.

then emperor bloom gives the thumbs up or thumbs down.

all this pretty get-behind-the-team bollocks, it's so 1997, we need to start demanding success, if you don't ask you don't get!

that chorus of discontent was the bestest atmosphere i've heard on the radio sussex airwaves this season! that coupled with the beautifully objective budgie byrne slapping his forehead and whispering "for ... fucks ... SAKE" when we concede another seagLOLS epic defensive FAIL. well he doesn't, but you know he's thinking it.

Not sure individual booing is a thing actually. Maybe they should read out each players name over the PA as they go in for half time and we get to boo each one appropriately.

If Bennett's having a good game he'll know it, I think hes not stupid enough to think the boos are directed at him if we've just shipped 3 poor goals in 45 mins at home

Agreed, I didn't hear the hateful stuff (as I'm in F block) but there is a line to be drawn

Yup, kinda what I was saying.

Every player will know that if they have a storming game, but the side overall are awful, they, as a team, will get some stick. But the hateful stuff just isn't on. This is a "game" after all !

Now theres a thought, or we coulld hold up signs :shit:

:jester:

If it had just been booing fair enough, but as I said some of it was downright hateful . I admit to using foul language in the heat of the moment but they went too far ...and it wasn't banter ....

.....the midfield and forwards worked very hard, I thought.

first half I thought the midfield were partially to blame for Hartlepool scoring 2 of the 3 goals. At times it was like one of those 'attack v defence' training games with no midfield in sight. Perhaps it was because we defended so deep and the midfield couldn't get back but there was no cover at all through the middle and our left sided midfield (Davies?) was completely awol.

For the second half they tightened up a lot and we were much more of a complete unit.

What got me about their third goal was the air of inevitability.

Sure, Elphick's pass was sloppy, and lo and behold, five passes and 10 seconds later, the net is bulging.

But... sloppy though that pass might have been, Elphick obviously didn't mean to do it, it was just plain shit. What got to me was that El-Abd was in acres of space to loft a diagonal cross into the box... and didn't. He played it back. For me, it's all about personal responsibility, and El-Abd did mean to pass it back because... well, I still can't fathom what he was thinking.

Because there was f*** all movement from anyone else in the midfield.

You CANNOT blame El-Abd. Forster had the ball and El-abd was the only player in any space, so it had to go back to him. Then the midfield still didn't bother getting away from their markers, so back to the defence it went.

Elphicks fault for the piss poor pass, but Davies, Crofts and Dicker should have been in space on that left hand side of the pitch for Forster or El-Abd to use.

A bit harsh.

First goal, their man had the freedom of the penalty area, and even though the match was only five minutes old, it was not the first time in the match. Second one, a defensive f***-up between two players going for the same ball.

For me, the midfield was where it was because they were expecting the defence to perform its simple tasks. That's how I read it anyway.

The midfield had piled forward into the box. There were three or four on the edge of the area waiting for the ball in. None of them were Forster because, as you said, he was down the left-hand side.

He could have even run into the space ahead of him (risky, mind).

Haven't seen the replays, but that's how I recall it. There were certainly targets to aim for.

So yes, I do apply a certain amount of culpability to El-Abd.

Spot on. Thought I was the only one who wasn't blaming El-Abd for their 3rd. He played what would be called in snooker a safety shot - not exciting, but equally not going to put you on shit street. That was until Elphick got involved...
