Shoreham of course
I can't see it being the end of it all, Harding will leave in January, Cullip prehaps and maybe Virgo, so more money to come

I think that if a team plays away from its base for a prolonged period of time then they're buggered.

4 years at Gillingham is a chilling thought. Withdean is not, and has never been, a serious permanent option.

Everything would have been fine were it not for this Public Enquiry...

Yeah cause we're really setting the Championship alight this season! Dick Knight probably can't get to his seat for scouts!

:shootself

I know I should add my weight to the arguments of Kalimantan Gull, Meades_ball and the like but as caz99 says, this is all so very, very tiring.
SFC. I think the reason you provoke a fierce response is not because you dare to disagree. It is because you are taking out your frustrations on the wrong people. If there is reason to mis-trust the current board please gives us details. If your complaint is that we sold the Goldstone (RIP) without proper provisions for a new home, you know where the blame lies. If you complaint is that the inquiry is taking too long, you know where the blame lies.
Can I have a nap now please?

Everyone knows the situation everyone is pissed off, Im pissed off but over the last few weeks ive decided that Im going to start supporting our football team.
Most of the time I can remember watching the albion has been about getting rid of the board, getting falmer etc! mostly not about football.

Ive now done something I said I would never do, bought a season ticket at Withdean.

Its time to start supporting the players on the pitch.

I am just fed up of hearing the same old crappy excuses from the board.

Which specific excuses? We can't build a ground without planning permission, and we haven't got that!

What would you have done to get us a stadium quicker?

same old excuses like we haven't got enough money for players, the players budget is this

What happened to the budgeted wages of Rodger Piercy and Blackwell
they haven't been replaced since they left

What has happened to the play off final money?

Surely the play off wasn't budgeted for?

What will happen with the Spurs gate reciept money? Thats an added bonus surely? there is no way that was budgeted for?

What do you think is happening to this money then SFC ? Do you think it is, to a large part, being swallowed up by the costs of the Inquiry, and the overheads of playing at a rented athletics track ? Or are you saying that this money is basically being pocketted by DK and MP while they plead "poverty" to the fans (and ask them for more money).

Are you suggesting that someone is actually coining it in at the club off the back of all this ? Come on, tell us where YOU believe this money is going, as you clearly do not trust the people who are running the club at the moment. Are they taking us all for a ride ? Leading us up the garden path ? Stashing this cash away in a swiss bank account ?

I'd like to hear your theory.

I haven't got a clue where the money is going. As i said earlier, I am sure the board have got the best interests of the club at heart. The current board have been in charge for 8 years!! I know we got done over previously by archer and goldstone but IN MY OPINION it shouldn't have taken 8 years to sort out what is happening

End of the day we need a new ground and the board are trying to get this

BUT....

we also need a team to play on the pitch.. What i am trying to get at is that SOME not all or half or whatever, should go towards the playing side.

Half the team are out of contract in the summer, still no contracts sorted for them (officially!)

This league is by far a lot worse than it was when we were in it last time. We are doing unbelievable to stay above the relegation zone, but we can't keep selling our best players and not replacing them!! We have got a centre back and a very useful 38 yr old up front. with no cover if they get injured.

I just don't understand why SOME of the money can't go towards improving the team. WE NEED A STRIKER!!

YOU can't put all your eggs in one basket!!

The club is short of money we all know that. We do not have a rich Russian wanting to use us for a play thing and to be honest I am not sure if I would want one.

All the time the inquiry is draging on it is costing the club money.

Money on lawer and other professional people's fees

Money on having to rent Withdean while pandering to the local wildlife

Money on keeping the issue alive. If this had been a normal business we would have given up ages ago and gone and built our shop in Newhaven

This is all money that the board are having to find. We lose money every game at Withdean unless it is sold out, then we only just about break even.

What more can the board do, they only have so much of their own money then can invest.

SFC, if you're running a business that is making a loss and in debt and you suddenly come into a bit of money that isn't budgeted, what would you do? Would you blow it all on a nice shiny new computer or would you think about reducing some of the debt so you can continue trading?

That is bollox.
You can't trade without a computer, so in our case

No players=no team to watch.

The asset stripping has started already.

slighlty off topic but if the new computer was needed to keep your business running and keep you competing with everyone elsethen I would buy a new computer and use the rest of the money to pay off debts

I'm getting a bit narked with the insinuations of posts like this.

Fact : I'm pissed off with Withdean.
Fact : I want to watch good players and compete in the champioship and maybe aim for the premiership.
Fact : I hate it when we lose good players.

Right, you now know where I stand as a fan. Time for some other facts.

Fact : Archer/Belotti shafted this club and would have been happy to see it disappear.
Fact : DK & MP have taken us from near extinction, playing in Gillingham, bottom of Div 3 to 2 titles, 1 relegation, 1 play-off final and now doing OK in the Championship.
Fact : We have a ground in Brighton now, albeit not what we want, but hell, it's a damn site better than Gillingham.
Fact : We have spent shed-loads of money to get the planning process to where it is now.
Fact : DK & MP can't control Lewes council, Norman Baker, Falmer council. They have tried to make it as difficult as possible.
Fact : If JP wanted to say NO, he had the ideal chance when he had TWO inspectors reports telling him NO. He couldn't say yes, as that would have left the door open for a judicial review. By holding a second inquiry into identifying the BEST LOCATION, he reduces the chances of a judicial review WHEN he says YES.
Fact : Our costs are very high, our revenues are very low. Where is this pot of money that DK is supposedly sitting on.

Right, chill. Breathe in. Ahhh.

FACT; every penny we are now getting is being pumped into the falmer Fiasco.

If that gets turned down then what do we do?

Don't really matter though does it because if things carry on like this we'll be back in the lower reaches of the lower leagues.

Is this one of those "something should be done" statements then ? Cos again, I'd have to ask, exactly WHAT ELSE could the current board have done ? What they HAVE done is put together the only credible planning application this club has ever managed for a new stadium. The fact that we are fighting NIMBYS every step of that way in an exhaustive Public Inquiry is hardly the boards fault, is it ? I tell you what, if it wasn't for this current board getting us away from Priestfield, this club would have gone under LONG before now.

we also need a team to play on the pitch.. What i am trying to get at is that SOME not all or half or whatever, should go towards the playing side.

I agree. The £600k windfall should allow for a small proportion to go towards the playing budget for at least a couple of loan players.

we can't keep selling our best players and not replacing them!! We have got a centre back and a very useful 38 yr old up front. with no cover if they get injured.

The reality of our situation is that all of our best players are susceptible to being sold, but thats hardly unique to the Albion. Its happened to us before, it'll happen again. It happens to every club in the country bar the top 5 or 6. Its naive in the extreme to expect us to turn down decent bids of cold hard cash for our players.

But has anyone come out yet and said that NONE of this money will be available for McGhee ? No. And I am confident that a (small) proportion of the cash from Spurs and Ipswich will be released to finance a couple of loan deals. So stop whining and have a bit of faith, for christs sake.
