I am not denying he has done a good job I am just saying that he has won f*** all so far, achieved nothing in management and doesnt deserve the LEGEND status.

Putting aside the logic of the argument which is of course that he has not yet produced the long term outcome befitting a legend,to which i do concur....BUT he is a legend to me because whatever the long term future of Brighton, he has instilled in me the following. the desire to really WANT to hear the guy every time I know he is about to be interviewed, to have a smile put on my face by the said interview, sometimes even in defeat, because he is bloody honest, wears his heart on his sleep, and to true football fans was a legend in his playing days. So yes he is a legend to me already, whatever the outcome.

In all reality, you do not have the credentials to comment on Gus's legendary status or otherwise, as for achieved nothing look where we were when SLADE was sacked and where we are now, having spent relatively little money on players you can't deny that is an achievement in itself can you? I'm sure you must be enjoying all the "we played better and did everything but win" speeches

I never said it wasnt. It is an achievement.

From speaking to various people involved with the club he seems to have time for everybody and is genuinely interested in every aspect of the club and what it does.

He obviously has this attitude with the players too as they are all performing well under him and the fact that they all went over to the bench to celebrate saturdays goal. El Abd for instance is having the season of his life.

Within seconds of my previous post he was quoted as saying this about Baz
Poyet said: “He cannot be closer. It has been difficult to give him a chance, it has been difficult to place him on the pitch, but he’s there. Sometimes you think who is closer, Gordon (Greer) or Chino? It’s both, they are there, 11.1 not even No. 12.

see, ok it may just be me but the whole 11.1 not 12 encapsulates why I like this guy. Just imagine what THAT statement does for a player

not to a legend status he hasnt. If he gets you promoted then thats different.

as a fan of another team how can you possibly judge the status of gus as legendary or otherwise?

you posted that he "has achieved nothing in management", then posted that he has.

what exactly are you trying to say?

Let me explain.

he has achieved nothing in football management to attain Legend status. Thats an undeniable fact.

No, he hasn't achieved anything trophy-wise, I'll grant you that. But he (and Tony Bloom) have given us HOPE. For the first time in DECADES we are optimistic about our medium and long-term future. That simply hasn't been the case for the last twenty five years or so as we've usually been worried about our very existence. Occassionally we've had the odd bit of success to help take our minds off it - but we knew that given our circumstances any steps forward promotioon-wise woiuld be almost impossible to maintain.

So you're going to have to forgive us if we slightly mis-use the term.

He has us playing the best football we have played for 30 years, that is a massive achievement when you consider where we were when he arrived. We are close to selling out games for the 1st time in years, we are top of the table and he says all the right things. I'd normally agree with you about winning things but all the above plus the enthusiasm throughout the club because of him means he gets this award early

In 45 years of watching the Albion i dont think we have ever had a manager who can give us a team like Gus can. Remember he has spent vitually no money and transformed a team that lets be honest was heading for the 3rd division to a team who with any justice would be 5 points clear at the top today. A division that includes Huddersfield, Southampton, Peterboro, and Sheffield Wednesday among others who have spent a lot more on players. Just fast forward a year we are playing in Falmer to 20,000 + , a Chairman who will spend money. Imagine that draw + Gus ability to get the best out of players. Times could be about to get very exiting and then Yes Gus will be a legend.
Ps If Mark is right in Argus today that Healy is coming on monday then we really can dream about going up as champions :amex::thumbsup:

Gus's quotation has a ring of this by a certain other 'legendary' manager:
“If God had wanted us to play football in the sky, He'd have put grass up there.”

While Cloughie's game play tactics were not quite the same tippy tappy passing as Gus, he did get all his teams playing a simple passing game on the grass ... and look what he achieved!

Oh he supports Orient!? I didn't realise! I thought from his ramblings he followed a half decent club!
Reminds me a lot of that twatty Watford O who used to rant away on here!
