Worthing
I'm not in the habit of trading insults either. But what drives someone to start a thread singling out a young player who's barely had time to find his feet on a new country? It happens season after season and I just don't get it
Look at the thread starter and relax. They’re out there.

Just wanted to revisit this thread as it really pissed me off when it was posted.

Initial post slagging off Gruda after his 1st proper game time has been edited, but quote below what "Plonker Piltdown" said last week:

£25m signing, what does he do? Seen nothing at all from him yet to even know what he can give to the side, in fact I'd say he's been a massive disappointment.

A week later, Gruda's 2nd ever game of actual minutes today and most people are now saying he was our MOM, can see real quality there, special talent at only 20, and he will be a great player for us. 😂

Feels worth repeating the message below to remind everyone, both for Gruda and others next in line for a slagging off - these are very young players, playing in a new league (the hardest league in the world), often in a new country, with new teammates and a new team that also has a brand new manager.

They are relatively cheap unpolished diamonds, that will need games and time to improve and develop. That's the plan and the Brighton model. 🙌😎

Genuinely thought this post was satire/a joke.

Embarrassing. How miserable and entitled are some people these days? It's nearly Christmas pal, cheer up! 😂

Remember we're supposed to be "supporters" so let's get behind our new players and support them! 🙌

Forget the price tag, less than £40m doesn't get any guaranteed PL quality. He's young, and just starting to get game time (not 5 min cameos). That means he's doing well in training and our coach has seen that! And FYI he was better than half the people on the pitch yesterday, so pipe down.

Rather than shitting on our new signings who will likely need a season to hit their stride, enjoy the fact we're in the top 10, have people coming back from injury, a bunch of young unpolished diamonds being polished and things will only get better as the team gel.

I was very impressed with him in that first half.
Likewise. I think he looks like a good find.

He faded a bit in the 2nd half, (as did many) as he builds match fitness. There's an intelligent player in there though.

In a couple of seasons of playing at this level I think he'll be top drawer.

Also he's good on deadballs. Looks like we can take Dunk off free kicks now! 😂

Agree. But more importantly, thank you for getting 'top drawer' grammatically correct on this forum (and the wider Internet) for... Well, for what I can remember, the first time ever 😊

You didn’t watch Saturday’s game then?

Oh and by the way he’s a 20 year playing a bit part in his first season in a foreign country and the best league in the world.
I certainly did. And this he is only 20 blah blah that's all well and good but he offers so very little.

And how did you thing he did on Saturday then? Because the common consensus was that he was very good then.

Gruda, Cashin - why pick on the inexperienced kids tonight? Why not the likes of Dunk, Estupinan, Adingra, Welbeck or Joao Pedro who were just as uninspiring or shit tonight?

I'm not on that 'common consensus'. I don't get the amazement of him from Saturday and he feels some way off being ready for this level currently. I've got high hopes for him in general. You can see he's a classy player. But that louche, grealish style is hard to pull out and be effective that young, at the top level.

He consistently holds onto the ball for too long and struggles to hold on to it.

And what’s your opinion about how he played Saturday then? Cos you asked what he does and he showed it to everyone then when he was the best player on the pitch after after he came on but you seem to have already forgotten about that.
He wasn’t the best player at all in MY opinion

Baleba, Webster and JPVH were better than Gruda against Forest, imho.

I’m very much in the camp of ‘this kid will go on to be special if he’s played correctly’, but I thought his selection in that 10 position for the first time, against that Villa midfield, with JP as the floating forward, with Adingra picked to the right of him and a new pairing in midfield behind, was just too big of an ask, and represented a bit too much arrogance in selection from the manager.

I know a number have said that the team selection looked like it was made with Palace in mind, but that’s an attitude I can’t quite get my head around. We’re only playing for the league at this point - we should be picking our best side for the remaining games, and Gruda at 10 isn’t yet in that side, even with injuries.
