They'll be lucky, with the amount of nimby letters you see in the arsegust from Hove.
Exactly.
Once these plans get round, the letters page is going to be absolutely rammed with letters of objection from the blue rinse brigade, you can guarantee it. SCCC will have to fight tooth and nail to develop their ground.

Fantastic stuff. I think there have been mutterings already from residents behind the Gilligan stand which doesn't sound too promising.

Will it increase the capacity dramtically?

hang on-

the ground realistically will only be full for 20/20 games (could it hold a ODI?) so its not gonna cause them MUCH distruption is it?

they could do with improving the bus service there to prevent everyone parking in the area....from the looks of it the stand is basically the same height as the current stand there

what on earth would be there problem?

When the debate was about the flodlights - wasn't the clincher - well we will get an out of town site and sell the land for development. And you can have a 24-Hour Drive-in fast food joint instead. At which the residents decided a cricket square and floodlights was better than flats and a McDonalds.

When i did some freelance for Southern FM, many a year agoe when the day night games started, I had to interview some local residents who were complaining about the floodlights, unless they have a heart attack at the sight of the plans, something tells me another long and expensive enquiry is on the cards for a Sussex Sports Club.

I suspect it would be due to an increase in traffic and also the building works.

It owuld be great to have an ODI, but I think we are only destined to stage minor internationals for the ICC trophy and world cup (if we have it again).

YOu are right about the bus service, although the station is a viable option. Perhaps travel vouchers could be used....

well even now there is a bus service running to both ends of the ground, a sodding number 7 at one end which is well frequent

the train station is what? 10 mins walk

i don't see much need for parking near the ground really- but yeh travel voucher would be a well good idea

As Tommy Boy said the proposed Gilligan stand doesn't look much taller than the existing stand.

The block of flats behind the stand is called Ashdown. I used to live there.

Flat owners in Ashdown are all SCCC members as a condition of the lease. I'm not sure why. Maybe the cricket club used to own the land.

Also don't forget that many residents with flats overlooking the cricket ground are cricket fans who bought them for that very reason.

That said I'm sure there will be plenty of protests as most of the residents in Ashdown and similar nearby flats are elderly, and at the risk of making a sweeping generalisation, elderly people feel threatened by change and love moaning!

The only thing that bothered me was the bloody squeaky gates and turnstiles by the pub. I went out to WD40 them once, but got my aim wrong and ended up squirting a steward in the eye!

Heh? The Number 7 runs straight from Brighton Station past the ground every few minutes. I think you will find it's people coming from outside Brighton and Hove who park in the streets nearby. I do hope this development goes ahead. The ground badly needs upgrading and the current Gilligan Stand is an eyesore. Surely the Ashdown residents would rather look at something attractive than that heap? I suspect, though, that the club will have to jump the same hurdles as ourselves over Falmer.

i said in another post, which you appear not to have read, about the number 7 (which i actually forgot about in my first post)

hove station is a matter of minutes away also...church road, with pretty much every bus under the sun is about 5 mins away

there really is no need to take the car
