Grimsby Keeper Sending Off

As I understand it, we were just about to take a corner when the fracas occured in the penalty area, resulting in Aiden Davison being sent off for headbutting Big Trev.

If an Albion player had fouled a Grimsby player before the corner kick was taken, is a free kick awarded to the other team?

And if that is the case, why were we not awarded a penalty for the clash on Big Trev?

What are the rules on this?

Thats what I couldnt undertsand...If there keeper is sent of for violent conduct, and he was inside his area the whole time...surly Brighton should have had a penalty.

If the ball is out of play when it happens then it's not a penalty. The ball has to be active when the foul is commited.

What would happen then if a player was making a run into the area, prior to the ball being kicked, and was tripped by a defender?

Is an indirect free kick given?

The rules are like jmc says, the ball has to be active for a free kick to be awarded etc. Still, got a bit heated and exciting didnt it? Anyone else notice Biscuit down the front getting told off by stewards for being a little over excited?

I think Trev gave their keeper a friendly squeeze of the plums, which the keeper did not appreciate

He didn't get told off by the stewards. They were just watching him to make sure he didn't climb the wall. There were about half a dozen other who did the same.

He just ran forward to shout at the keeper, ref and anybody else who would listen, as did we all.

We were told this on Saturday night by a Grimsby fan who said he'd seen it, but I didn't from 10yd away.

Also I didn't see any headbutt. He deserved to go for acting like a spoilt baby though.

I saw the headbutt. Not much of one admittedly, but there was no way the ref could have done anything else.

He could, however, have added the correct amount of time on afterwards, instead of blowing up after 30 seconds because he thought it was all getting too lively for him. The scuffle on its own took four times that, then there's all the subs to consider.

Not that we would have scored again if he'd added on a month of injury time and we'd been playing against seven men. But it's the principle, y'see...

I didn't see it either and I was right at the front but I did see Davisons hands around Benjamins throat before Benji was thrown to the ground.

That's the biggest consolation for me, that Grimsby now will lose their keeper for 3 matches and will probably help their relegation.

I saw the goalkeeper and Benjamin with heads together like rutting stags before the keeper tried to throttle Benjamin. In the melee the ref and linesmen missed the big Grimsby center back (Craig?) throw a punch at McPhee.

Danny had some fine tussles. I was really proud of him on Saturday.

HIT HIM CHARLIE!

I was heard to shout that out, yes

I know it won't make us any happier but this is the verdict of a Grimsby fan on the official message board. (It's Nexus, Turkey - remember him?) He's talking about their 2nd goal.

'Looked at the versions of Town fans who went and the official verdict seems to be that you were well and truly ROBBED! No one thinks it was a goal. If it happened to us ther'd be uproar.'
