Graham Barrett is one of a number of former Arsenal players who make you seriously question the quality of their youth system.

Joe O'Cearuill was another, I believe going back further still, Nicky Rust was on their books, as was Valur Gislason. And they're just the ones we've signed, there seems to be plenty of Arse rejects floating around the leagues, gradually dropping down until they find their proper level, somewhere around the Ryman Division Two.

Ian Selley, Tommy Black at Palace, there are plenty more.

I'd be mildly unimpressed if a player like Barrett came out of our youth team, so how on earth do they get contracts at Arsenal?

My lasting memory of this game was the already relegated cod-heads giving it large and taunting us about going down. One of their lot was about 25 stone and ended up on the receiving end of the entire Brighton end singing 'You'll be dead by, you'll be dead by, you'll be dead by forty-five!'

It was my last game before I emmigrated. Had a great day as I was pretty sure we were getting relegated anyway. Picked up a speeding ticket that day too... but strangely the police never followed up when I denied it but offered to come to court if they paid my travel fees

the sale of their striker Bobby Zamora this summer for around £3m... how did we only sell him for half that? what a bad deal

Same old arguments - is this the same Graham Barrett who played on the wing and must have set up 10+ of Zamora's goals that season? And the one that has a record of something like 3 goals and 3 assists in about Ireland appearances?

I agree he's not top Premiership standard but I'm not quite sure what people want here sometimes.

Did the chants not target his rather "plump" son? I remember the father was very vocal until the faithful started singing "you'll never reach your forties" at that young boy, at which point he went very quiet. Quite cutting, I thought.

You're right - the fatist chants moved onto his son too. A bit below the belt IMHO, but feckin funny (and probably deserved) nonetheless!:lolol:

great day out...one of the last proper away games went to 'en masse' with all my lates from college, must have been 20 or so of us, half sneaking into the home end...very merry by midday and the time we got up there, seem to remember slaps being exchanged between us and the cod fans prior to the game, also seem to remember very good chippies and brighton fans completely taking the piss on their promenade after the game...think how things might have been different had we stayed up that season.

Not at all - it's rather Samaritan of us to be giving out health warnings to opposition fans.

I'm looking forward to our singing stuff like "don't sit too close to the telly, you'll go blind", and "eat plenty of fruits, fibre and green vegetables and watch your cholesterol"

I remember the fancy dress(es). Very good Elvis. plus huge number of the bright blue wigs. And Stoke spoiling the party.

This was the Stoke now in the Premiership no less

If we had stayed up we wouldn't have had that glorious day out at Cardiff the next season! Having said that we MIGHT have retained Zamora...nah!

All in all, going down worked out in our favour. That day out in Cardiff was a once in a lifetime day out.

Its because a club at the top like Arsenal and Manure just go out and pick up anyone they can find in the hope of a few making it, usually by raiding other clubs youth development schemes

And then have the likes of Bobby f***ing Charlton trying to take the moral high ground over Real Madrid's alleged interest in Ronaldo.

Gislason is up there with Ashley Neal as two of the most untalented players to ever wear the stripes
