In a heavily repressed racially divisive America, Jackie Robinson played the redneck's own sport of baseball, excelled and stayed the course with decorum.
He was a great example to all, not least to the sport, and broke down some pretty bloody high barriers against odds and, of course, in the face of great adversity.

He was the first black player to play in a white team, wasn't he? In an age where there was opposition and controversy about ending seggregation.

Don Bradman because he completely dominated his sport: no other sportsmen in any other sport has come close to that sort of domination.

Just as an example, he has a test average of 99.94, the next best is 60.04 - phenomenal.

There are a lot of boxing fans who wouldn't even claim that Ali was the best boxer of all time, let alone the greatest sportsman.
