How scary was that: straight after posting about the Shining, I headed out to lunch, to be confronted, underneath my office building, by a long corridor...with two identical twin children wearing identical clothing staring up at me.

I regard 'The Exorcist' as an absolute classic. My second favourite film of all time (behind 'Jaws').

'The Thing' is a truly great horror film. 'Eraserhead' is one of the most disturbing things I've ever seen. But my second favourite horror film must be 'Rosemary's Baby'. I just love the atmosphere the whole thing creates. Top notch in my book.

Shining was very scary but I have to admit the original Friday 13th - nearly shat myself at the end when Jason sprang from the lake and grabbed the girl in the boat.

Halloween. Seems a bit tame now, but it was astounding when it came out, especially the final scene............

As a kid, one of the scariest films i saw was Salem's Lot. Floating vampire kids tapping at the window. Its one of those films that i dare not see now as it would ruin the memory of the terror.

A bit like if i saw Inner Space now and found no mirth in it whatsoever.
:)

When that one ugly mother of a Vampire came in through the window and stood up made me shit it, I was a nipper and scared the hell out of me. That film was always my top horror film.

Another good one is Halloween E20.

When I was 13 I stupidly, when my parents went away for the night, watched a film called The Howling boy did I soil my paisley pyjama's big style that night - my dog barking downstairs didn't help. I was convinced there were Werewolves in my garden & was petrified.

I also cacked myself when I watched An American Werewolf in London when I was 12.

I saw it a few years ago and realised it is really a comedy.

I agree about Omen II. Also Psycho I - because that could actually happen.

I'm scared now 'cos I'm just going to bed - better turn the lights on.............*parp*

Now I've just remebered Salem's lot. That scared the crap out of me too..............:shootself

I thought the whole point of AWIL was to gawp at Jenny Agutter - have I got that wrong? :)

One film that's not quite a horror movie but which made me jump is a French film from the 50s called Les Diaboliques - really atmospheric.

It was remade recently starring Sharon Stone and by all accounts it was crap.
